i feel like hof voting should be based soley on stats and not personality, so yes i would vote for him.
id vote for him even though I saw firsthand what a loser the guy was as a person. the only person skip kicked off the team during his tenure i believe yet he still says hes the most talented sob to ever grace that storied program. i remember joey had a twin named terry. i wonder what happened to that guy.
Not a doubt in my mind...I'd vote for him. Ty Cobb was one of the most obnoxious bb players in the world and everyone hated him. Not a whole lot of difference except for the fact that one is in the HOF and the other can't buy his way in...
In response you really can't compare Cobb and Belle, Cobb hit four hundred how many times, and how many hits did he have in his career Come on now no comparison. Except they were both asses.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't compare Cobb's stats with Belle's. I simply think claiming Belle shouldn't get in JUST because he was an A-hole, shouldn't matter because Cobb was one of the sport's BIGGEST A-holes. He (Cobb) was judged based on what he did ON the field...the same standards that Belle should be judged, IMO.
You know what's disappointing? With all that LSU baseball has accomplished the past...oh....15-20 years: The national titles.... the honor of being named "Program of the '90's" by various publications, etc. Albert Belle has been pretty much the only real "super star" to come out of LSU. It's disappointing that the only former Tiger baseball player with a real shot at the HOF since the inception of our baseball glory, is a guy that couldn't buy a friend.... :dis: Now, don't get me wrong, we've sent a lot of guys to the majors that have had solid careers--but really none all that spectacular. Todd Walker has had, by all accounts, a solid, if not above average MLB career--but it's safe to say that he's not had a "splendid" career. Ben McDonald didn't send droves of people scurrying to the ticket office to purchase tickets to a game in which he was starting... Byrd is having a decent career, but nothing great.... Brandon Larson seems to have maxed out his potential (and his chances of being a contributor to a MLB team)...Eddie Furniss--hell?! Where IS that guy?!?! Cresse? Buried in AAA...not even invited to spring training with the big league club... Brad Hawpe and Aaron Hill are currently the only former Tigers young enough, and in a position early enough in their careers to make something happen....but neither appear to be destined for repeat All-Star game appearances.....
