1. SEC coaches that really did an excellent job this year:

    - Bobby Johnson

SEC coaches that did a pretty good job:

    - Urban Meyer (can't say he was great because he is really lucky to be where he is at)

    - Les Miles (didn't have team ready to play vs Florida)

    - Nutt (even considering their QB situation, don't know how people are still saying that they don't have talent, their Oline is awesome)

    - Spurrier

    - Coach Orgeron (still has to learn how to be a good head coach, but this team looked much better than last year)

    Coaches that underperformed:

    - Tubberville (gets credit for having his team overperform against both LSU & Florida, but overall was not a greatly coached season)

    - Richt (Even considering the circumstances, I don't think the coaches did a good job.)

Coaches that I don't really have an opinion on:

    - Shula (struggles were somewhat understandable, and he shouldn't have been fired. His coaching was just kind of... blah.)

    - Sylvester Croom (Looked to have promise at times and he's getting some young talent in there, but still not sold on him being a good coach).

    - Brooks (despite the success, don't think it was that great of a coaching job)

    - Fulmer (nice turnaround, but still not a great coached team).
  2. Very good post. Perceptions go a very long way, especially with something like college football. Their is so much passion with the fans, especially at a place like LSU. A lot of it is the demeanor, Spurrier and Richt have that intensity on the sidelines. They throw their tirades and what not. Miles is just a mild mannered guy. When Saban came to LSU he did have good success at Michigan ST but wasnt great. He was living off his Belicheck experience mor than anything. Plus, as mentioned, Saban had that coaches look. He was an extremely intense person. So people gravitated to him. Now Saban leaves and Miles comes in to coach. Miles, as I said is mild mannered. The complete opposite of Saban. People dont initially gravitate to Miles. Another thing with people questioning Miles is that he didnt have a great record at Ok St. He was mainly garnering attention because he beat Ok a few times. Another negative against Miles is the fact that the considered top candidates(Petrino, Rodriguez,Davis, and Del Rio) all turned down the job.
  3. Not denying that people felt that way, but still don't understand why. Miles had as good of a winning percentage as any coach could at that school. His record was actually even better than, can't remember his name, but the coach that left & went to Miami to be so successful.

Not exactly. Just because a candidate pulls their name from consideration doesn't mean they turned it down. We never offered any of them the job.
  4. good assesment. :thumb:
  5. If you're looking at career ranking

    1. Spurrier (multiple SEC titles, 1 MNC)
    2. Fulmer (multiple sec titles, 1 MNC)
    3. Richt (multiple SEC titles)
    4. Tupperware (1 SEC title, undefeated season)
    5. Meyer (SEC crown, shot @ MNC)
    6. Miles (SEC West title, BCS bowl)
    7. Nutt (1 ten win season, 2 West title)
    8. Brooks (taking Kentucky to 1st bowl since '02)
    9. Johnson (not a huge drop off after losing 1st round pick Cutler)
    10. Coach-O (Won Egg bowl, gave us all we wanted, better record than '05)
    11. Croom (3-8 again)
    12. Whoever BAMA takes (gotta earn your ranking, I don't care how good you were in another conference)
  6. You're talking about Jimmy Johnson i assume? He did have a better record than him and who knows maybe Miles has a similar future ahead of him :) . However, I wouldn't mind him not winning a super bowl and instead staying here.
  7. Meyer fifth? Are you kidding? In his third year at the helm he is the most winningest coach in the SEC and has Florida playing for the national championship. What does it take to be a great coach in your eyes?
  8. Pretty good analysis of this season. I think some people may be jumping on the Meyer bandwagon a little early. The guys he's winning with are Zooks 5th year seniors. No, I'm not saying Zook would have them in the same position. All I'm saying is just like I said about Miles, give the guy time to establish his system with his players. A couple of years from now, when it is entirely his show, then judge him one way or another. Same with Miles. Don't bash him, or anoit him the second coming until he's a few years into it, and you have an actual body of work to judge.

  9. I stated my reasons. In a nut shell, Leak isnt an option QB, yet he keeps running the option with him. Which is causing a lot of turnovers. They wont be able to do that against OSU, they wont self destruct like most opponents of Florida have this year. Also, all the boneheaded penalties. The coach has to take some responsibility there. I think in a few years his ranking will certainly change, once he gets the players he wants for his system. Still in all, you have to coach to your talent and he isnt doing that. Again, as with the schools, the coaches are all very close in the upper tier. Outside of Spurrier who is the clear number one.
  10. I agree but everything points to positives for Meyer.... looks like a very strong recruiting class (#2 on rivals and scout) at this point. A lot can still change but no doubt a strong class and he's done a lot to bring back the pride for that program.....inviting former standouts to locker room and to speak to players, "Meet and greet" type outings too. He's spent a lot of time with some good PR events for the program.

Fair statement but I have to give a stong lean towards annoiting him at this point when you really analyze what he'd accomplished beginning with the events surrounding the Hurricane last year to now. :thumb:
