I think the problem with the Republican party is they are the middle, trying to be moderates. That's what has conservatives, which is wholly seperate from the Republican Party, so pissed off like me. Nominating Miers to the court when there are about 3,000 more qualified jurists with a record of which we know. Congress spending money like they are ole time Democrats and Bush just watching it happen, not vetoing anything and in fact, adding to it.

The Republicans always forget what got them there.....conservatives. They get there and want to be like the intellectual lightweight Jim Jeffords.

    I feel alot like you.

How did the Newt Gingrich's and Tom Delay's get control. It continued with Trent Lott abandoning the party to let Clinton off the hook.

I hope someone i can get behind comes forward in the Republican Party.

Being in power should equate to accomplishing something. At present, precious little is being accomplished due to the stumbling around by the Republicans. What we are witnessing is the failure to follow through with convictions, those same convictions that carried the Republicans to victory are now bastardized to such a degree that it looks like the Bush White House is trying to break all spending records and trying to kiss up to the Dems in order to get anything done.

At least Newt had some backbone and principle in his beliefs. He made a promise in which other GOP Senators went on to sign (contract with America), and great times lay ahead. The Clinton years were great years because the GOP still had control and demanded sweeping welfare reform and a balanced budget, which were accomplished. They forced Clinton to the middle (really the right) and it worked. Say what you want about the contract with America as it was demonized as not being 'compassionate' enough by the left, but it helped get things accomplished. Well today's compassionate conservatives means throwing money at each and every cause in an attempt to not look mean or intolerant, all the while abondoning the principle of conservatism.
For Pete's sake it took the Democrats to take on illegal immegration with Richardson declaring a state of emergency in NM to get that back in the forefront. It has mysteriously fizzled yet again.

From Pat Buchanan - The GOP may be Reaganite in its tax policy, but it is Wilsonian in its foreign policy, FDR in its trade policy and LBJ all the way in its spending policy.

We have gotten away from what our Party stood for.

Balance the Budget every damn year. Quit spending more than we take in. I dont care if we are at war or not. Cut some of the pork out and lets get control of federal spending.

Get a social security plan in place that makes sense.

Attack terrorism and take the gloves off. Dont put restrictions on our fighting people not to fire on masque's. Tell them every time you set off a carbomb we destroy one of your religious sites.

Build some more refineries and develop other technology for cars. Hybrids, etc to reduce our dependence. Drill for oil off the Cal. coast .

Quit letting our jobs leave the country. Penalize companies that take jobs from Americans and send them abroad. Make it advantagious for investment in this country.

I hate to say it but in the next elections there is going to be a backlash against republicans for the lack of direction and leadership shown in both houses of Congress.

And i dont think George Bush has handled things as well as i thought he would.

what does this have to do with government? hybrids and alternative fuels and stuff, that is for ford and exxon and texaco to figure out. we want a smaller government, not a larger one, dont we?

in a free society, you cant control people like that. jobs will go overseas. i dont want my government telling people who to hire. i hate when the government tells people what to do.

companies cant take jobs from anyone. they give jobs. not employing you is not taking anything from you. and nobody should be forced to employ anyone, unless you hate freedom of course. the government controls too much already.

I know you favor tax cuts and incentives, right? Give those companies a financial reason to come up with alternative fuels and stuff. That won't increase the size of government.

btw, Bush has done nothing to decrease the size of government.

Free trade is a wonderful thing. But it's not a good thing when our government imposes restrictions and regulations on the business community, forcing them to move elsewhere to do business.

btw, Bush has done nothing to remove these restrictions and regulations on businesses.

Back to the original point of this thread ... the republicans have all the control and power, but have done basically nothing with it on domestic issues. In fact, if you close your eyes, you would think the democrats were in office with the way they are spending money and growing the government.
