Here's my take on that: Does it really matter at this point whether Miles is "handcuffing" his OCs or not? You are the HC and it is your job to get it running efficiently. If the OC aint' cuttin' it, you gotta do something about it and not hire another who will do the same old same old.
Or is the OC "ain't cuttin' it" because of the handcuffs the HC has placed on him. @Robidoux87 does raise an interesting question. Cam has good enough credentials to be working somewhere where he isn't micromanaged. And to be earning a comparable salary to the $1.5 million he gets at LSU. I understand the Cam and Les are old friends but that only goes so far. Why would Cam allow his reputation to be tarnished by remaining the OC in name only?
Miles has very general guidelines that he gives to his coordinators off and on during a game but the coordinators call the plays based on a general direction Miles suggest. But Miles will only suggest a handful of times a game like most head coaches. Sure Miles has to take responsibility for some of the bad play calling in those situations but the coordinators are more at fault IMO.
In the 9 plays of the shortened McNeese game they ran a screen and a jet sweep. I know those plays are in the playbook but the never use them again.
You see the look on JJ's face throughout his tenure as our QB? And the silly, "we're not sure what we're supposed to be doing" penalities??? His OC's were Crowton and Stud. You see the same look on Harris face the last 2 games? And the same, ridiculous penalties??? His OC is Cam. The common denominator is Les. And the I-Formation, pound our head into a brick wall offense with 120 yards passing...... Les is the Head Coach.
kiffin has taken the handcuffs off choker and made a game plan that works to his abilities. Miles (and yes miles not cam, b/c I still say this is miles offense no matter who is the figure head at OC) tries to go against what harris does well or for that matter trust him to throw at all it seems. Hell if he wants to run run run then put 2 back in there at one time and then let the d guess who is going to get it.
My concern is that no matter who the OC has been we watch the same, uber conservative O from LSU. Outside of '13 LSU has been very conservative. I get the QB play has been weak but still. Even in the great season of '11, LSU ran the ball, everyone knew the run was coming but the OL that year was beyond amazing.
I understand the concern...Just passing info I know to be true from people very close to all the ins and outs at LSU. These same people want Les gone for the most part.
