Does anybody else find it interesting that going into week 4 Urban and Nick are trying to figure out their QB position? Urban had an embarrassment of QB riches that would seem to be impossible to screw up. But I think he did. Most of the teams in the nation would kill for his #2 or #3. So how good does he coach them up for a MAC team; 16/29 with 3 interceptions. Good work Urban. Nick brought in offensive genius and QB guru Lane Kiffen and won the Coker sweepstakes. What could go wrong? How about 32/59 with 3 INTs in your own house. Nice job guys!! Urban bailed on a mess at Florida and Nick totally failed at Miami. And neither of them are particularly known form being good people. I don't get why the media and a lot of people, including members of this board, worship these guy's ball sweat?
Nobody worships their ball sweat but bottom line they are both great coaches. Say what you want but whatever you say can't negate the 7 national championships between them.
Didn't say they weren't very successful college football coaches, They both recruit well and field mostly well coached teams. Although I think Urban is the better X & O guy. Bum Phillips used to say about Don Shula "He could take his'n and beat your'n; then he could take your'n and beat his'n". Urban might fall into that category, but I think Nick's is more about recruiting. Point is they both are a bit shaky because of struggles at the QB position. And some people do worship their ball sweat just because they have the 7 trophies. I'm a bit harder to impress.
I definitely see the irony in it, with Urban especially. Nick stuck his foot in a steaming pile of dog shit when he hired Kiffin imo. Even better, the supposed "anti-qb coach," Les Miles, has a better QB situation right now than either of them.
Harris looks poised. He stepped up in the pocket and when no one was open down field he tucked it and pucker up a good chunk of yardage with his feet. He will catch on.
I think Ohio State is fine. Their egos are seriously inflated right now and all of their issues are mental. Both Jones and Barrett are still extremely talented QB's at the college level. Also mental is the "looking over your shoulder" issue. Its an issue when you have 2 bad QB's and when you have 2 good QB's. As for Bama. Not sure what the hell is going on there. Never thought I would see a 5 turnover game at home. But something tells me they get it figured out and are still very much in contention for the CFP's come November.
Wooden was a great teacher and mentor for life as he was a coach. I have never heard anybody say anything bad about Phil as a person. Easy to say he had Michael Jordan with the Bulls and Shaq and Kobe with the Lakers but a lot of coaches wouldn't have been able to get those players to play together within his system. Urban and Nick are both miserable unhappy human beings but they are both great coaches. If both of them retired today they have already earned a spot in the Hall of Fame.
