How good is the Pac 10? Here is how I compare..... take the Top 3 teams from the Pac 10 against the top 3 from the SEC and whou would you pic.... Then take the Bottom 3 teams from both Conferences and see how they would match up against each other if they played... I don't think the Pac 10 is very good as a Conference! :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
I think Cal can give USC a run again this year. Remember Tedford beat them a couple of years back. I know I'm pulling for the bears at least.
ESPN has all the scores back to the 2002 season... so from the 2002 season to date, the PAC 10 is: 7-6 versus the SEC 2-4 versus the ACC 16-12 versus the Big Ten 12-16 versus the Big 12 5-2 versus the Big East There's a lot of formulas out there... wins and losses being one of them... so I'm not sure how anyone "proves" the PAC 10 sucks... although it's an honorable theory.
Conf. vs Conf. records can be mis-leading. For the most part, the match-ups were upper tier team from one conf playing a lower tier team from the other. Not really a good measure one way or another. The closest thing so far to a match-up of similar teams was the Cal/Tenn series (which as we all know was a split). Other than that, it was a lot of double digit win teams vs 5 loss teams.
I have season tickets to U of A and watch alot of pac-10 teams. I said last year after watching USC they would lose at least one, possibly 2 on this forum. I truly believe they lose at least one this year. They do not have as tough a schedule as we do but they are a huge target each week. Schools out here look at it like playing in the superbowl, they get a bigger crowd for USC and generally play more inspired. They will get upset. I also dont know if Cal this year would be an upset, and that game may be a pick em for Cal at home if they continue to roll and USC struggles. UCLA is better than last year, and beat them. ASU will be better, and soon. OSU can sneak up on them. They will lose, but I think we could certainly drop a game as well. Oklahoma mean while may run the table after seeing Texas stink it up....it will be fun to watch it play out.
Am I right to say that LSU can claim 4 of these? Arizona twice, Arizona St., Oregon St.? I also remember USC completely demolishing Auburn twice and Arkansas twice. That's 8 games out of the 13 total right there. The Pac-10 should not be taken too lightly. I remember ASU and OSU passing all over the Tigers when we played them.
Maybe that perception comes from the fact that most of our games with them (As a conference) are Home games, that we've won much more times than not. Overall, the SEC is 65-40-7 against the Pac. Here's something to look at (Some "Copy/paste" stuff for tirk ). Not my work btw. As much as we may not like that conference or would like to believe that we can't base another conference's strength, or lack thereof, based on how LSU beat them at home- that's not mentioning the fact that OSU had several opportunities to beat us- which SHOCKED me. When they ran out on the field, I remember telling my father they were about to get introduced to what football is really about and I had to eat my words. I watched several Pac10 games last year and I think their level of defensive play would surprise many- though still not on SEC level as a whole, the gap has gotten smaller in the upper tier. Also, we have 12 teams and they have 10. We have LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia- who are upper-tier programs on a consistent basis )Tennessee......so-so. There seems to be some recognition of 3 of their teams to being "Legit" that's almost half the conference, pretty close to ours. Our "Middle" to "Bottom dwellers" would have tough times in a round-robin schedule with the Pac. As of right now, I count the following teams as those mentioned above: Alabama, Arkansas, Vandy, South Carolina, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miss. State. I thought South Carolina was going to come out much stronger but they made me feel foolish for calling them the "Sleeper" with that 28-14 game over La-La Lafayette. At the end of the day, all I really care about is LSU being #1. :thumb:
In recent years, just barely. I counted 15 games between SEC vs PAC-10 since '00. 8 in SEC stadiums, 7 in PAC-10 stadiums (SEC is 9-6). Bringing up records and stats from the 60's is kinda irrellevant to who's good now.
I meant it to pretty much be said for almost any conf. vs. any conf. I hate making excuses, but there was more than just the Katrina factor for the LSU/ASU game. LSU had a new head coach, new def coordinator, a QB with only a couple career starts. Oh, and the team USC hung 70 on was a 4-7 Arky team (played in LA). Yes I know USC blew them out in Fayetteville last year as well, but most college football fans not living in the West Coast also know that the Arky team they played, improved DRASTICALLY as the year progressed.
lol.... all stats are misleading at some level, that's why we all spend so much time "adjusting" them to fit our needs.
