In the past, hardly any of Coach Brady's players have improved, but Tyrus and Darnell have definiteyl improved since last season. I read somewhere that Darnell went to a camp out in California over the summer and played lights out. He got a lot of great compliments from a lot of people within the camp. Going to the Elite 8 would be so awesome, but the Final Four and playing for the national championship would be better.
I can think of a few very good examples of non-improvement: Torris Bright Antonio Hudson Brad Bridgewater Charlie Thompson Brian Beshara but his statement was indeed over the top.
Kentucky is also playing without one of its best players and likely will have to for the rest of the season. And Florida will battle the Cats for the top of the SEC East. The West - toss up, I guess most would consider Bama to be the team to beat but who knows. The SEC is weak IMO this year in hoops. I don't think LSU will do much at all this year. What trends, tendencies or past history makes anyone think this team will be any better than last year's squad? The Tigers lost Brandon Bass and Antonio Hudson, arguably the two best players, off a team that could not shoot the mid-range to outside jumper so I don't see how anyone could think that LSU will be better off without them. I do like some of the younger players (T. Mitchell, T. Thomas) but the problem of consistent perimeter scoring still exists. I think the Tigers will finish fifth or sixth in the SEC, be lucky to make the NCAA Tourney and get bounced in the first round. It's the mediocrity that is Brady Ball.
Tyrus brings more upside than Bass ever did... and Antonio Hudson sucked until the SEC tournament. I truly believe we are a much superior team than last year. Have you even seen a LSU game this year?
Yes, I've seen a couple. I like Thomas and think he's a fine player and does have a tremendous upside but to say more than Bass I think is a bit of an over statement at this point in time. I still think the problem of lack of consistent perimeter scoring is a problem. And the jury is still out on whether they'll be a "superior" team to last year's. Admittedly so in previous posts, I don't care for John Brady so I'm a bit biased. I'm always torn - wanting LSU to win but knowing if they do the longer Brady will be at LSU. I've been knowing Brady since his days at Crowley High School and I just don't think he's a good coach at an SEC level school. He belongs at a place like Samford where it's a better fit for his style of play.
I don't think it is. He does not currently offer the consistent production that Bass did, but his upside is clearly better. He has more height, more athleticism, and more shooting ability. Bass reached the peak of his potential at LSU. I've seen Southern, Houston, McNeese, and UNO and listened to the rest on the radio. I plan to attend for ULL this Sat. Tasmin Mitchell has so far offered more consistent production than his previous counterpart, Antonio Hudson, at the SF position. Darnell Lazare has improved tremendously. Big Baby is just as good or better than last year. It's all about getting players. Boeheim at Syracuse struggled for years to win anything meaningful until he got a player (and then couldnt' win with the same team minus that player). Coaching is overrated in college athletics. If you want to make recruiting/attrition arguments, I'll listen. Brady's teams have always proved to play excellent defense. That hasn't changed. As long as that continues I'll be a LSU supporter regardless of who the coach is. You can't control shooting nights, but you can control how your team plays defense.
While I don't care for John Brady, I do hope the Tigers win and have a good year. For the last few years basketball has been something to kill time between football and baseball, spring football. Hopefully your points will play out and they will contend for the SEC title.
I'm not trying to be crazy and over the top, but it is pretty true. Antonio Hudson was thought of the be the enxt big time college basketball player, but there was really no improvement over his 4 years here. Maybe if he played somewhere where there was a really good coach (Tom Izzo, Coach Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, Tubby Smith), he would have improved and become a great basketball player. No one will ever know. Geaux Tigers.ldskule:
