How far do we need to go for Brady to keep his job?

No, that's not it. It has to do with a lot of people just disliking Brady and also the fact that when people usually show for a big game, LSU loses. It just seems like he can't get on any real streak against good teams at home. Also, his teams are usually offensively boring. At least this team looks like they may be exciting at times on offense.

I mean, I think I bought a Snickers candy bar that was more expensive than some LSU basketball tickets. I do agree with you though that there is some apathy there because the football atmosphere is just hard to follow up. But if they get on a roll, apathy tends to be forgotten.

good point. In addition to my eariler take, they are a growing number of fans that just refuse to go the game until brady is fired.

I think that article my Katz on ESPN might have given Brady a ringing endorsement.

In the article, for those that haven't read it, Katz spoke highly of us and pointed out that we start 3-freshmen, 1-soph. and 1-senior and stated that if we mature, we could go roaring into the postseason.

Now, I've not been a big fan of Brady's (given his annual situation of a player leaving, etc.), but I can't help but look at this team (where we have but 1 Sr. and 1 Jr.) and think that if they don't go far into the NCAA's, then it's really not all Brady's fault.

Now, the game againts UConn was the first men's basketball game I've made since I left Louisiana 4 and a half years ago, and before that game, I thought Brady needed to advance beyond the first round in the NCAA tourny to save his job. But following the game, it became ever so clear to me that our Tigers are young and don't know how to finish off an opponent yet (and from the looks of it, national pundits like Katz seem to agree). They definately have talent.

If this group of Freshmen and Sophomores were Juniors and Seniors, then I would expect Brady to HAVE to make it to the Sweet 16 (or be in a competitve matchup in the round of 32) to save his job. But I think he gets a "mulligan" this season....his first "deserved" free pass...

I probably sound like a broken record, but there is no reason not to make the NCAA tourney, no matter how inexperienced we are.

We'll probably have 5 SEC teams make the tourney. How many teams in the SEC have more experienced talent than LSU right now? It's a young and pretty weak SEC this year.

I've never been a Brady fan, but I actually think he's done a much better job this year. He finally improved the OOC schedule which I believe will pay huge dividends in close SEC games. I think it has already paid off with the Ark win. No better way to get young talent some experience by playing top competition.

I do think that Brady gets conservative on offense with a lead late in the game. Sort of like a prevent defense in football, it doesn't work. He has to let the kids keep playing and not run the shot clock too far down, which leads to a bad shot.

Barring an injury to Davis or Dmitch, they'll be no excuse for not making the NCAA tourney. Anything less and it'll be time to go in a different direction.

Without getting into the merits or dis-merits of Brady, I'll just say that it will be a disappointment to me if this team does not make the NCAAs. I think that a top 2 finish in the SEC west is realistic and if we make that, we should make the NCAAs. How this team plays towards the end of the season will also be an indication of Brady's coaching ability, for a young team who clearly had some things to learn over the course of a tough season. So, I think you ask this question at the end of the season. Has the team matured? Are they playing well?

I could even see Skip saying if this team misses the NCAAs but they are actually playing well, Brady might get another year, IF he can keep his players together one more year (although I guess I'd argue that if the Tigers are playing well, we're winning in the SEC this year). If we sign Terry Martin Jr., that's also a consideration. Remember Brady brought in transfer D.Mason, and if we add Terry Martin, there are some things going right in the program. We have potentially a better team next year, just if Brady can keep his players together (we lose a big senior in D.Mitch, but add D.Mason and all of our young players get better). So, Skip will be hard pressed to get rid of Brady in that context.

I think missing the NCAAs and having the Tigers not showing up for games is what it will take... Perhaps a better way to ask the question is how "badly" do the Tigers do for Brady to lose his job. I wouldn't say he's on "shaky" ground at this point. The SEC hasn't even really started yet, and the boys beat one of their chief competitors on their tough home floor (a school with real basketball fans, I'll add :) ).

Given the current state of SEC basketball, I don't see how we could play well and not be a top 5 SEC team.

I just don't see 5 SEC teams right now that are clearly better than LSU. I think Florida, UT and Vandy are solid. It's hard not to put Kentucky in that group, but right now, they are really struggling on offense. The rest of the SEC is just not very good and certainly don't have the talent of an LSU.

I think, despite the NCAA loss last year, last season bought Brady a lot of slack with Skip. We had a really, really good season - tying for the SEC West & a couple points away from winning the SEC. Plus I think we only lost like 1 home game all season. And so far this season, we've been exciting to watch & a very good team, just young right now & don't quite know how to finish games yet. Sorry to dissapoint so many of you, but Brady won't be going anywhere soon because he will continue to improve & put better teams out on the court.

The real question is what does LSU have to do to get fans to show up to games? They had a successful season last year, look to have another one this year. They had award winning marketing for the basketball program go into effect this past year & John Brady has done a lot to try & involve the student organizations. They just completely redid the P-Mac. I mean, what the hell is it going to take for people to start showing the support that this team needs?

Then you come back w/ THIS?

Prohibation???? What the hell is prohibation? Is that not being allowed to drink
    because of recruiting violations?

Remove the 2x4 from your own eye before picking at the cinder in someone
    else's.

    Good take.

IMO, until fans actually start packing the PMAC and supporting this team (face it, there's a LOT of talent on this team--seems as though people are just boycotting the games to spite Brady), then nothing will happen.

If I were the AD, my take/message to the discontented fans would be:
"Until you show me you're willing to support this team through thick and thin, then don't come to me bitch'n about the coaching effort."

The best way to assure that your voice is heard as a fan is to be there, every game you can, and at the end of the season, after showing unwaivering support, THEN you can voice your displeasure and feel that you should be heard/listened to. But until we all start showing support for this team, why WOULD the "higher ups" feel that replacing the current head coach that gets you to the NCAA tourny, for someone that MIGHT get you farther????

The LSU basketball program is a goldmine. If we can get a good coach in here that can coach this team and publicize this team, there could be more people in the PMAC, and these guys will definitely play better. It is so sorry to walk in the PMAC for every game and some of the upper levels have 0 people in them. I cannot wait until the day where I log on to TigerForums and see a thread named JOHN BRADY FIRED! I hope this team does really good, but John Brady needs to geaux.
