hey guys. this is my first post here. i am happy to see that fans on here have more class and respect than those on tigerdroppings. the game friday should be exciting. both teams have just come off close calls with mississippi teams that had an extra week to prepare, so both teams know they have to bring their A game to win. i truely think it will depend on who brings more intensity and who wants it more. statistically lsu is the best in the conference. this will definatly be our hardest game of the year so far. as for our poor performances in the SEC champ game, you have to remember that the 2002 hogs really shouldn't have been there. Alabama won the west that year but was on probabtion, and we barely squeezed by LSU with a last second win. i'm sure we weren't an even match up with georgia, not to mention i'm sure they had a huge home field advantage. anyhow no point to making excuses for that game now, it's in the past. as for the florida one I don't know any stats from that game, so there's no point in me trying to defend it. here's to a great game on friday.
Welcome to the board, good first post! We've had some trolls this week from Arky, they're banned now. It's nice to get a regular football fan from up north (Arkansas way). We played well against Auburn on defense, but our running game was broken early in the season and it has begun to come around lately. It's not as good as yours, McFaden looks like the best back in the conference this year. I'd take our passing game, our receivers are all quality, and our spear chucker is pretty good, although he does through a pick on occasion. It depends if he is on that day or not. If he's on, we have an excellent chance to win. Our defense has been stout all season. We are hurting at linebacker, we have lost Darry Beckwith, an outstanding soph. He was replaced by Jacob Catrera, a true freshman who was highly sought coming out of high school. Our front four on defense is great, and we have good depth on the d-line. Our special teams have been spotty, and that could create a break that could be exploited. We've played some hard games against Auburn, Fla., Tenn. The team had an off day against Fla. so hopefully that won't happen again. If we're on, it will be a great game. I look forward to Friday, and hopefully an entertaining, competitive good SEC shootout. You guys will be the 4th team rated in the top 10 that we've faced on the road this year. It has been challenging for us, and this is our final exam for the year. We welcome the challenge, and hope for an injury free game. We know you've got a great offense, but statistically, your defense does not appear as good as ours. What do you think?
Very simple what LSU needs to do. Instead of coming out and trying to force a running game that doesn't exist, we come out throwing. Not at the end of the game, but at the beginning. Reason? Because we need to jump on Ark. early. Get a 2 td lead early, and make Ark a one-dimensional team. Take away their strength, running game, and make them beat us with the pass. I know this is easier said than done, but hopefully that's the gameplan.
Yes, it would be nice if the offense come out sharp and aggressive, but not tense, to pile a heap of points on ARKY early on, AND keep on pounding on them, since their offense is capable of big plays and also quick scores. It will be heck of a game if the offense and defense do what they are capable of. Can someone tell me WHY it is so tough to play in their stadium?(esp with their win lost record at home)
I am very nervous about this game. McFadden is obviously the key defensively. He strikes me like Vince Young did at TX - he can make the difference in the game by himself. They will try to use that to get big plays from misdirection, etc. How well we defense him and their circus act play calling will be the deal maker or breaker. On offense, everything is up to us. We have the talent; do we have the gameplan and coaching? Frankly it won't surprise me for us to do a solid job on D and squeak by or possibly not win due to offensive play calling and execution and/or special teams mistakes.
As for the LR, War Memorial comment, people do tend to think that the atmosphere is difficult to play in. The crowds there are far different that fayetteville and far more hostile. As well as the crowds the tail gating is much more intense. Yes Nutt is 17-1 (I think, I may be wrong about the 17 wins, but I know only one loss) but in reality the only difficult opponent we play there is you, and the only loss came to you two years. We usually play two games a year there, a non-conference cupcake and LSU. when LSU is an away game we tend to alternate Miss State and South Carolina. Arkansas fans like to brag about the one loss in LR and up until two years ago had shirts and everything that said "undefeated in the rock" but really the stat isn't the impressive given the reality. anyhow, i'm looking foward to a great game tomorrow. and happy thanksgiving Oh, also someone asked what I thought about our defense. I definatly agree it isn't as good as LSU, given LSU has the statistically best in the conference. However our defense has proofed themselves in several games this year. Our problem is normally our pass defense, which was really exposed in the SC game. They looked a lot better in the Tenn game, and decent in the Miss State. Hopefully that won't be a problem on saturday, but if LSU comes out with a pass attack we can't stop at the beginning it could be a problem, as you obviously have a very capable qb and recievers.
