With all due respect, to win we will need a complete team effort and the intentions of a single player won't mean squat if the rest of the team is not as focused. Defensively, we need to do what we did in the 1st game: make Richardson as much of a non-factor as possible and make McCarron start airing it out. Offensively, we need to be much better than we were in the 1st game. We need to run the option until Bama absolutely takes that away. Absolutely zero turnovers and JJ needs to place the ball with more finesses rather than trying to rocket any passes into his receivers. Last thing we need to do: no "trick plays". Let Saban beat himself with those in his attampt to "out-Miles" Les Miles. Let's hope for a lot of press about how unpredictable Miles is...Saban's ego will take over and force him to attempt to draw attention to himself by (in his mind) going step for step with Les in the perceived "crazy play" department. I'm not worried about our special teams...they truly are special. I mostly worry about our offense and also worry that our defense plays very good but does not play the best games of their careers so far.
I don't think LSU has played a complete game this year. We have played halfs and in some games better offense but nothing that displays the total package. That is a scary thought. The press loves them some Saban and talk about how he prepares and is so detailed. Well Les has shown he knows how to prepare remember GT & Ore. On top of that Nick's weakness is in game asjustment. He has been outcoached many times by a more nimble coach. Again Les has shown he can make the adjustments required. The Ga game is the best example. T-Bob said Ga put in some new stunts they weren't prepared for but adjusted and killed them in the second half. I think we play our most complete game Jan 9 and the game is not as close as Nov 5.
I have not re-watched the Bama game, but intend to multiple times over the next few weeks. My perception may very well be from the emotion of watching the game live. It did seem to me we were fortunate in some circumstances, but it may have been just good play. I always worry about a stagnate offense in the event we have a blown assignment on defense and can't make up the score. The last two games have made me feel a little better about that as we adjusted fine. It will be a special season to witness, if we win it all.
For those looking at the Georgia Southern game vs Bama as a point of attack........ That is utter failure. For reference, look at the Georgia Tech / LSU game in 2008. 35 days people and Bama will be ready for that ****... LSU is not going to learn the triple option nor will we win the game running the option more than what we do now... The option is best when the D has been stretched down-filed, had to stop the power run, and play straight-up football... If anything, we will actually need to pass this game to win... just my 2 cents...
I like this in the OT of the first game............ bama goes: A 1-10 A25 AJ McCarron middle pass incomplete to T. Richardson. A 2-10 A25 PENALTY UA substitution infraction 45 yards to the LS30. A 2-G L30 AJ McCarron sideline pass incomplete to T. Richardson. A 3-G L30 AJ McCarron sacked for loss of 5 yards to the LS35 (Sam Montgomery). A 4-G L35 Cade Foster field goal attempt from 52 MISSED - short, spot at UA25, clock 15:00.
I know Ga. Southern ran for 300 yards on them using the option, but with over a month to prepare, it can be shut down. Look what we did against Ga. Tech when we played them. And that was in our down year.
I am talking about the 300 yards more than the option. If we run for 300 I am sure we win. There is a weakness somewhere if a team runs 300 on you. We have to find it and expose it. Weather it is screens to the outside, sweeps, etc. If we keep moving the chains I will feel a whole lot better.
I agree and disagree. First of all I do think we will have to pass to win, I hope we run screen plays this time for starters but I think the option will be successful against Alabama, the key will be picking the correct times to run it. The one fault you have in your analysis is that you are assuming that Alabama is as well prepared as LSU. I don't believe anyone in the country is as prepared as we are and the record reflects that. I mainly say the wishbone jokingly but I think it would be funny as hell if CLM's tried it. I actually think you are wrong because I don't believe they are preparing for it. Georgia Southern scored 21 points on Alabama running this offense. I don't believe Alabama would be prepared for it but that also doesn't mean you have to run it every play unless its highly successful or to tire the defense or both.
