I don't think we will be entirely successful if all we do is run. They run a 3-4 very, very well. The 3 downed linemen are HUGE. They don't need to blitz and they are difficult to block. Yes, we've got to establish a running game but I feel the two biggest areas are our DL being able to stuff the holes to keep Trent Richardson & Co. in check. Our LB have to be more physical, too. If we can limit their run without putting "8 in the box" then play action passes won't mean much; if I were on the field I'd not bite on their fake. Alabama tends to run behind #75 and he beat our DL silly - until he came up lame. If he's healthy how do we correct this? I dunno. Once TR is free of the big guys... I don't like thinking about it. Our QB... with the 3-4 defense they were getting pressure on our QB (and we initially weren't pressuring their's) so their superb DBs could relax and cover our WRs and JL is the more accurate passer though he doesn't seem to handle the pressure QUITE as well as JJ (who has a cannon for an arm). Alabama will probably be the favorite: ranked better in every category. But I feel we win. We also have to watch for Saban's trick plays a flea flicker would be perfect. Hey, Miles & Chavis, are you listening???
After the SECG, T-Bob said that UGA's defense ran stunts that LSU wasn't expecting, and that it took LSU a while (obviously) to figure out how to block it. (I can't find that article now.) Since 'bama will probably also do some things that LSU doesn't expect, in-game coaching adjustments should play a big role. I like LSU's odds here. That, and tell Brad Wing that on every single punt, he has to hit the wire that holds up the Sky Cam at just the perfect angle to gain an extra 15 yards.
We beat them last time while the Honey Badger was in hibernation. He has since awoken and will see to it that LSU wins big. Bama does two things great: run the ball and play defense. LSU does four things great: run the ball, play defense, play special teams, and create turnovers. We are the better team; there is little question. We've consistently gotten better since the first show down, and I think we've still got our best game in front of us.
You must not have watched the same game I did. Because I saw LSU out-gain Alabama from midway through the second quarter till the end of OT. Despite Mark May, who said "Alabama left 16 points on the field.", LSU played a smarter game. Repeatedly trying long field goals when your kickers are obviously struggling =/= "scoring chances". That's just dumb football. Rather than do something similar, LSU played a field position game. In retrospect, it was exactly the right strategy. Remember, LSU had sure TD receptions dropped, or that game ends in regulation. As the younger team, I honestly believe LSU has more upside, and thus more room to improve. Tyrann Mathieu, for example, has really grown into the punt returning duties since that game, where he was almost a non-factor. This is our year, and no one's going to take it from us. :LSU231:
well if you know anything about football is this game will be different in that it is on turf, it will be in a dome, it will have momentum swings, turnovers can happen that didnt last time, game plans will be different, But what will be the same is 2 teams that have alot of talent and want to win badly against the other. I see more points in this one and more big plays. we already know special teams are gonna be important. This is the same as every college football game ever played. 1.) win turnover battle 2.) tackle well and wrap up 3.) dont commit stupid penalties 4.) win the line of scrimmage blocking and tackling 5.) Catch the ball 6.) Wear the other team out 7.) Get the points when you have a chance 8.) Pressure the other teams qb 9.) Play for 60 minutes or longer if neccesary 10.) Make Big Plays Tigers we know you can do it. Go out there and do it.
