How come Marshall Faulk didn't go to LSU?

Nice, as in personality or as runner? I thought Toomer contributed pretty well.

Butler ended up moving to DB cause he couldn't move up the dpth chart at RB. Damn shame too, because he was an absolute BEAST at South Terrebonne.

How many other big names did we miss out on because of position disputes?

I know that Saban missed out on Vince Young because he wanted VY to play wide reciever. And really, could you blame him?

    Any others?

Thanks for all the info everyone

That sucks about him being recruited primarily as a defensive back even though he ended being one of the greatest RB's in college football and NFL. Oh well, guess you win some and lose some.

I lived in San Diego when Faulk played at SDSU. That's during the time when the WAC looked like the AFL. Nobody had a defense and Faulk would just blow through the line like he was playing Red Rover with a bunch of little girls.

Unfortunately SDSU had very little talent around him and even fewer fans in the stands. (San Diego is not much of a sports town)

It's been a long time so it's a little hard to remember but I though Faulk only played RB in his first two seasons in high school. I may be wrong but I thought he played DB during his junior and senior years.

We are all able to look at this with hindsight. No recruit is a sure thing at any position. Many more will excel at positions they never played before. I really think beating ourselves or any former coaches up for anything related to Faulk is wasted energy.

Obviously I wish we'd have offered him as a RB, but the coaches were not 'wrong' to recruit him as a DB, he would have been spectacular....just like Joe McKnight would be a shutdown corner.
