How can I convince a coworker that JR will be better than RP this season?

you just read what you want to read...

Was JaMarcus Russell the Wendy's Player of the Year? So looks like that was right of me to argue... russell had 22 tds as a SR, I think Perrilloux had what? 67?

russell had 84 tds in his whole career in HS, Perrilloux had 155...

you still want to compare high school stats?

Russell had 10,744 total yds... Perrilloux had 12,705...

    still want to compare?
Did Russell play well against UF? no he didnt... 6/10 with 55 yds and 2 int's

so yeah.. please read what I say carefully.. .b/c i did say that Russell will be better this year, but the two points I argued were:

    1. Russell was just as good in H.S (not true)
    2. Russell was good against UF (not true)

and i was right on both of them... so go back t oyour joke book and find something else to say about me[/QUOTE]

may I also add that he did this in a district that sent 5 teams to the playoffs, and had 7 teams in the Top 37... meaning they were a few spots from sending 7

I think it's great to have a discussion like this as LSU is blessed with two QBs that can throw a football the length of the field, not to even mention Matt Flynn, who has a far and away better grasp of Fisher's system than the other two. If Russell struggles this season, and it's unlikely, then the Flynn & RP noise will get loud. RP doesn't even deserve the backup spot yet, he's got to show the coaches he has a grasp of the system. The question everyone wants to know the answer to is when will RP be ready to take the starting job. If RP can grab the system quickly like Flynn did, you may not keep him off the field next year. Until then, it's Russell's and Flynn's jobs to lose. RP's still schooling.

How do you know Flynn has a better grasp of the offense? What makes you think its "far & away better"?

it will take RP till mid-season to get the system... he is that football savvy, but what keeps him behind Russell will be experience, etc...

I just hope that we have a lot of blowouts for him to play in :)

and I also hope that the LSU fans accept whomever the QB may be, b/c all the booing non-sense dont help

Flynn will be 2nd string when Russell is healthy, b/c I don't think you want to throw RP in the fire in mid-game, but with a week to prepare if Russell gets hurt, I think Coach Miles would rethink his depth chart

That's a big playbook. Unlikely RP is even close to finishing his playbook schooling by then. Took Flynn two years to get where he is now. He's at the Top of Fisher's Class. He'd be starting if he had the arm of either Russell or RP. Again, this will work itself out on the field. We'll see RP in mop up in SEC action. If he's a worldbeater, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.

I haven't read any comments this year that say Flynn understands the offense any better than Russell, and I read as many of the coaches' quotes as I can get my hands on. Think you could provide something you base your opinion off of?

Right now, I think Flynn should definitely be ahead of Perrilloux. It just hasn't been long enough for Perrilloux to learn the offense. By mid-season, things could change.

IMO, there is no way to predict exactly who will do what this year at QB. Each person is entitled to his/her opinion. We can look at track records and guess, but you can't "prove" anything about the future.

Russell has shown flashes of brilliance, won the Oregon St. game last year late, almost brought us back in the Cap One Bowl. He has also stunk it up on occasion (Fla.). But, kids get older, more mature, study the system more, learn to read defenses correctly, sometime. Sometime they just get older and not wiser. What will Russell do? I absolutely don't know. I hope for the best and wish him great success.

RP is obviously a great talent. Could he master enough of the offense fast enough to beat out Russell? Could happen if Russell did not develop in the offseason. Or if Ryan turns out to just smooth be "exceptional", could happen.

Maybe someone else "knows", but I don't. That's why I will watch all the games I can, and watch the mystery unfold for myself!
