I'm very happy with this win. But there is always room for improvement and there things that jump out at during the game that need to be looked at and fixed. I don't think there is a need for bashing but pointing out obvious things about a teams performance is legit. First of all, the defense was lights out in the 2nd half. The explosiveness of the front 4 was incredible. They Croyles cadence down and jumped off the line immediately pushing the OL back into Croyle. Those guys will be sorely missed next year. The blitzing was good in the 2nd half. and well planned. The DB's all played great. They were on the WR's playing aggressively in the 2nd half. Good job by Pelini and the players of making adjustments in the 2nd half. We are still somewhat vunerable to a good running game though. The 1st half showed that and there was a lot of poor tackling going on. The offense did OK. They made the plays when they had too. JR was very accurate in the 2nd half but not very accurate in the 1st half. I don't know why it is, but our offense can not do anything in the 1st half against decent teams. The only game we blow open in the 1st half was Tenn. This is troubling, but at least we know they have the ability and the will to turn it around in the 2nd half. However, with offensive struggles in the 1st half consistenlty, will eventually bite us. They need to come out swinging in the 1st quarter. I wish they would put Skyler in more often and use him in passing plays or just put him in the wideout for running plays. Mix him in the game. As of now, everytime he comes in you know who is getting the ball. If he is coming in, you know it is a designed Skyler play. Therefore, we catch no one off guard when they use him. The coaches need to mix him in occasionally and put him in at random. Also, every time that Addai came in you knew they were passing. The announcer caught on to that quickly. We are fortunate that LSU didn't get burned. In the end, great win for LSU, the pulled it together when they had too. I just think LSU should've won this game easily. Alabama offense is nothing special and the defense shut them down in the 2nd half. The offense needs to put more points on the board in teh 1st half.
I bet USC could easily forget the 1st half against ASU and Orgeon... And I bet Texas could easily forget the 1st half against Oklahoma State... And I bet Bama could easily for get the 2nd half...
I do wonder about the reverse calls made deep in Bama territory, but otherwise I agree: no complaints.
Agreed. Those Bama fans allowed the 8,000 or so LSU fans there to own---own---that place in the second half. Embarassing...well, for them, at least.
There are some good points made in this thread by fans. I am happy that we won and i think this is a team that fights hard. But i would like to say something. Winning is important and LSU has won some close games. But what to me is more important than winning and winning is a byproduct of is the strive for excellence. Talent alone will not make you a winner. You may win with talent alone but it wont make you a champion. There are some things other than talent that determine whether you just win or you become Champions. Call it Heart, guts, luck, skill , or whatever but some people have it and some dont. I will tell you a story of two brothers that played for our high school when i was there. One of the brothers was givin all the talent in the world and just did enough to be good. I am talking he had speed, natural strength, could jump. Could have played for any College in the country if he had Heart. But he was lazy and didnt work hard. The other brother was fast enough and a good athlete but was smaller and not as gifted. But he worked his butt off and lifted weights after every one had gone home and had the desire. If God would have givin the talented boy desire as well there is no telling where he could have gone. And vice versa if the desire had been givin the talent it would have been different. I will take the one with desire any day over the lazy talented. Because people always respect someone more who works hard for what they get versus someone who has it givin to them and doesnt appreciate it. My point out of all this is winning is important but you can win and not be giving your best effort. I think this team is playing with alot of heart and that is why they are winning. But they are not playing up to the talent level some of us think they possess. I do think the Tenn game may be a result of that. When you let up and relax instead of keeping sharp. Spurrier teams at Florida did not let up when they had someone down. He had both talent and the drive for excellence to be Champions.
