I get it that an explosive offense is fun to watch, but the down side is more time with the ball in the opponent's hand and little time for the defense to rest on the bench, something our defense suffered from last year. I'll take a good ball control offense and a staunch defense all day along. That's a recipe that will always win games.
Grind it out when needed but also have the capability to get down the field fast with explosive plays. That’s all I meant. Defense seems to have taken a back seat to offense across the board in college football. I would love for LSU to stack up our offensive line and be able to push people around. However I would take 2019 every single year if it were offered.
Ideally, put the game out of reach with an explosive offense and then grind out the remainder by owning TOP. I believe that’s O’s vision, and he wanted a more dominant defense than what Aranda provided to really tighten the screws. Pelini has provided glimpses of that. Ensminger isn’t creative enough in his play calling; there were a few great calls, but for the most part I saw too much ball control. Maybe that has something to do with not trusting the freshmen QBs, but Brennan’s offense was pretty dang stale too. We need an innovator like Brady on staff to at least push E. It looks like L brings almost nothing to the table. I hope we can get the OM game in and the D can bottle the black bears up. And E opens it up and proves me wrong. The end of the first half and the 4th quarter were excruciating for me.
Great to see Tiger players willing to go out and EARN a victory last night! Last year's success gave a sense of entitlement to some of our players IMO. But not those on the field last night. They had heart!
Totally agree. Given all of the above that you list, lsu-i-like’s expectation of the offense is unrealistic. Additionally, we had injured offensive linemen (a unit that particularly lacks depth) and this was the 1st start for both Max Johnson and Kole Taylor. We do not have the personnel (Burrow, Chase, Edwars-Helaire, etc) the practice (no spring drills), repetitions (summer of 10,000 passes) to perform at the level of last year. Ensminger can only call plays that Johnson and the others have practiced together. This probably translates to a thinner play selection. That said, I have to agree with him that at times Ensminger was both overly conservative and predictable.
well said LSU4Life i am guilty of expecting too much sometimes but when i step back i can look at things better. But i am worried about this Title9 stuff because that goes beyond football to integrity and doing the right thing. Just because you are a football player doesn't give you the right to break the law. This looks really bad and if that had happenned to any one of our family would it matter if it was a football player. Some people have to be held accountable for what happenned. Charachter, Honor, Integity matter and arent just words. I almost got fired for refusing to do something i knew was wrong and involved one of my employees safety. I had to force my company to do the right thing.
