Does anyone remember that our D wasn’t exactly an iron curtain last year? And that our offense relied heavily on our D to close out the game last night? And that Pelini has a huge buyout? I need to see changes on offense more than on defense.
If the team that started last night will be the starters next season we will have a team . If it looks like the team that started this season look for another season like this one .
True frosh QB, top 3 receiving options opted out. 2 scholarship TEs, top 2 RBs were injured. The coaching staff did a number to score 30 points last night.
It's taken a while and a lot of attrition but maybe we are finally starting to see who really wants to be here.
There were a high number of wasted plays on first/sec down but some key third downs and decleatings to make that win happen. Not to mention the TOs and pressures on Trask which BTW were all forced by a rapidly improving D. Still think if DM commits to run early, we get beat soundly. Toney was ripping some major runs as have most top tier RBs this year. TG for the Trask hype campaign. Chris Doering on SEC Final was beside himself, savaging FU and DM. I have some new found respect for guy calling it for what it was.
I have to agree with the pride for these young guys! Very impressed with MJ leadership and those dbs stepping up. This is the team I thought we would see most of the year.
We wouldn’t be the 1st defending champ since the 1940’s to follow up a championship with a losing season.
That and not having to cringe every time an opposing QB reaches back and launches one down the field. I find myself instantly just dropping my head and listening now.
The reality is you need an explosive offense to win in modern day football. That will come with personnel (both coaches and players) and experience. You still need a defense that’s at least average that can make big stops and plays from time to time. We had neither the majority of this year and we’re 4-5. There are a lot of what if’s that could have us 7-2 What if we opened with Vandy or USCe instead of Mississippi State? What if we didn’t have to move the Mizzou game last minute and actually scored on the final play? What if we didn’t lose our starting QB for the year week 3? What if we started MJ instead of TJ against A&M? Even without those what if’s, If we had 3 cupcakes on the schedule this year, we would be looking at 7-5 or 8-5 (not that much different from 2008). I know every team went through COVID, but look are the # of freshman out there for LSU. Those kids had no spring, no summer and no fall. That matters. Just some perspective for this being the worst season in 20+ years.
