How awesome would it be for the Rose Bowl to have to take Utah?!

If that were the scenario, then yes. The No. 4 team would get the bid because the non-BCS team wouldn't be in the top 6.

I'm looking at the standings a little closer though, and I'm not sure you could say with certainty that Miami would pass Boise or Louisville in the BCS Standings. Explain how you came to that conclusion. Thanks!

Yes if VT wins, then Miami is out of the picture.

But then Georgia has a decent chance at overtaking Louisville and Boise St. as well.

Georgia plays Ga. Tech and Louisville plays Cincy and Tulane. Boise St. plays a horrible Nevada team. So it would come down to Georgia and Louisville, and it would be extremely close. Georgia and Louisville would both gain enough on Boise St. in the computer polls to overtake them. Of course human poll voting would have it's say as well. Then it may come down to style points in winning these games.

Well just from a standpoint of human voters, Miami would gain at least somewhat in the polls (not overtake them) on Louisville and widen it's lead over Boise St. with a win over a highly ranked Va. Tech team.

And of course computer polls would be in Miami's favor as well, getting a boost.

Miami is already in a virtual tie with these 2 other teams, this game would easily vault Miami ahead of the other 2.

But even for all that to matter, both Cal and Texas would have to lose. Utah has already finished their season. They are in.

Then we're talkin about either Louisville, Boise St. or Georgia to get a BCS bowl bid.

Miami decides their own fate by winning or losing, not affected by what others do.

Auburn/Tennesee has to get one, OU/Iowa St (or CU) has to get one, USC has it already regardless (Rose or Orange).

You may be right about the human voters. There's no way to predict what those morons will do. In the computers though... It's going to be tough for a two loss Miami to catch a one-loss Louisville, and even harder to catch a no-loss Boise State.

If you look at A & H for instance, it takes a HUGE difference in SOS to make up a loss in the standings. Boise State's 90th ranked schedule vs. Miami's 9th ranked schedule still has Boise in front of Miami. Miami's SOS can't increase much from 9th and Boise's can't fall much from 90th. So I don't know where the make up will be.

The other computer's aren't quite so uniform though, so we'll have to see. It will be interesting to say the least. GO AGGIES!! GO GOLDEN EAGLES!!

How do you get that both Cal and Texas would have to lose? Only one of them would (provided they fall out of the Top 6)

If Cal lost then that scenario is very possible, but USC still has two very tough games left against their biggest rivals ND and UCLA. If both Cal and USC lose or USC loses to only ND then you would still have your big ten pac ten matchup in the Rose Bowl since the big ten and pac ten champs get an automatic birth in a bcs bowl which would be in the rose bowl, since the Iowa and USC fiasco in the orange bowl the rose bowl and big ten and pac ten have threatened to pull out of the bcs if that happens again.

I think there's a good chance that Auburn and Oklahoma meet in the title game given USC has two very tough games left, but if USC loses only one game it may not drop out of the top six and if Cal wins it may not also drop out of the top six, meaning only Utah gets the bcs birth in the Fiesta.

Anyways wanting to ruin the rose bowl doesn't help the bcs system. If both the big ten and pac ten and the rose bowl pull out of the bcs then the coaches pull won't be obligated to vote for the bowl coalition team for the national championship that would potentially screw over SEC teams more than before. If those two conferences weren't in the bcs last season, it's more than likely that LSU doesn't get a national championship since USC was number 1 in both polls going into the rose bowl, if those two conferences aren't in the bcs this season and USC wins out they again are national champs according to the polls.

The Rose Bowl is so full of itself, I don't care if it wants to "take it's ball and go home". Sour Grapes on their part. If other BCS Bowls have to play by the rules, then they should too.

Sure it's not fair, but it's possible. It would probably be better for all bowl games to be anchored to a conference when it doesn't have the title game. The Sugar Bowl being tied to the SEC and the Orange the big 12 like in the past would be best for attendance and ratings. If everyone in the big 12 dreams about a trip to Miami in the dead of January it creates ties and traditions which helps attendance.
