Now I can agree with you on that there are more pressing issues that need to be addressed. Doesnt mean that this apology has to be diminished by your opinion of it.

My take on it is that no one in my generation, nor my parents, or grandparents or great grandparents for that matter owe anyone anything. I'm not saying that slavery wasn't wrong. Its another black eye in our nations past but it is just that. The past.

Just out of curiosity, do YOU favor reparations? Honest question.

You should read some of my above post, I never have or never will advocate or favor reparations. I believe independence and working for what you want in life, simple is that. Ive never been on any welfare or otherwise.

So whats wrong with apologizing for something that was wrong. I mean it is the same government that slavery flourished under.

That's fine. I've been away from this board for a while, and wasn't familiar with you. I was just curious as to your stand on that issue.

The real question is what is the apology worth. It would be made by people that had NOTHING to do with any of it, and made to people that NEVER lived through it. Unless by chance there are still any people alive that were actually salves. Do you see where I'm coming from. I'll give you an example. Someone stole my car stereo 8 years ago. For you to apologize for that even though you didn't do it would be worthless to me. It would be hollow, and I just don't understand how it could make anyone feel better. So to answer your question, NO, there is nothing wrong with it, it would just be words.

If your grandfather was killed by another man's grandfather, and that man apologized to your family on behalf of his family for the pain that his family had caused yours, I can't imagine those words would be worthless.

    True, but not the same.

I understand that you dont want to apologize and you say get over it, because you dont want to be held responsible for something you had nothing to do with.

However, its not you whos apologizing. Its the people who work and represent the US government as elected officials, apologizing on behalf of the US Governments historical wrongs.
