1. This bill was sponsored by a recently-elected white Demo out of Memphis who was elected from a 60% black district. The only reason he won was because about 12 black candidates ran and split the ticket so badly among the black voters that this guy was able to slip in. So he is just kissing up to his black voters - for all the good it will do him. He will be a one term representative.
  2. Amigo, we have never agreed more. I tried to rep you but I got the infamous spread it around thing. Can't imagine what you might have said that I agreed with before this:grin:

  3. I don't like where this is leading.

You have an admission of guilt and an apology from the US government. That's the first step in opening the door to reparations claims.

I don't like this one bit.
  4. lol admission of guilt?

I guess this is the official statement that starts the debate of whether it happened or not.

An apology means Im sorry we a civilized nation and government treated humans this way.

Nobody said a thing about reparations, it wouldnt even pass on the vote.

    :nope:Sad

  5. I WANT MY REFUND!! :D
  6. See Customer Service:wink:

  7. Don't tell me that if there's an official apology there won't be people (or groups of people) who won't seize upon it as all they need to at least sue for reparations. And if they manage to shop it to the right court (see 9th Circuit Court of Appeals) it will happen.

Other than that, this is just typical feel-good legislation. Aside from opening the aforementioned can of worms, re: reparations, an apology does nothing, means nothing.
  8. Are you serious, you believe the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is going to decide on reparations, you are smarter than that. Thats a measure that has to be presented as a bill in congress and voted on. Which will nerver happen, and it shouldnt happen either. Also the last time I heard, conservatives pretty much had all the courts in their favor, due to Alberto Gonzalez.

There is nothing typical about apologizing for slavery.
  9. There are people who have been clamoring for reparations for many decades and its nothing new and nothing to worry about. Non-starter--never happen--no legal basis.

    What's wrong with feeling good?

Not to you, perhaps. But it means something to MASTERMIND. How does it hurt you, actually?

  10. Doesn't particularly hurt me. It just seems to me to be a waste of time apologizing for a wrong that was remedied 150 years ago, and affects nobody today, when there are far more pressing issues needing to be addressed.
