*****BINGO***** Hay Bama fan - ol' $$$$$ has played games at EVERY OTHER FREAKIN' JOB HE'S HAD!!!!!! What makes you think he'll treat you ANY DIFFERENTLY??????
As I've already said, it is because Saban isn't coaching just anywhere. Saban has the chance to coach at the University of Alabama. BTW, props on the avatar, Cash's cover of NIN's "Hurt" was pretty darn good.
What YOU don't understand is I DON'T CARE WHERE $$$$$ COACHES. I didn't like the he treated us when he left for the NFL. I took crap on this board for calling Nick out for the ch!ckensh!t way he left us. You MUST be terribly proud of the jack you had to throw his way to get him. I guess it probably would bother me more if he coached for a team that matters.
Will he be at Bama 3 years? 5? 8? No one knows the answer to that question. What we do know is the program will be better off when that day comes. I have expectations we'll see him for awhile. That's based on what we all know. As the HC at Bama, IF you are successful, you are more widely known the the Gov. of the state. It's a celebrity position. That something we all know. Now, when you look at the person Saban is you understand how big his ego is...combine that with the respect and attn. he'll receive from the Bama community and you can see it's a match. A match made in heaven? Again, far too early to even speculate. But, I think we can all see the things he "needs" from a position and what the position offers...well, they match. (money aside.) Yes, I can say I am. I won't begin to dispute it was a mercenary type of hire. But, I can look at the whole situation, loyalty aside, and understand the investment nature of it. In a short period things are already increasing; enrollment up, donations up, and as demostrated this past weekend the hope is up again also. One can't deny the passion we have as Alabama fans. It's something we've talked about for over a century and it was made a "fact, set in stone," Sat. afternoon.
BWAA HAAAAA!   Gee, didn't Ray Perkins, Gene Stallings, Mike Dubose, Dennis Francione, and Mike Price all have the chance to coach at mighty Alabama. And didn't they all quit?
Problem was nobody TOLD any of THOSE guys that they were coaching the MIGHTY ALABAMA football program. At least Mike Price figured a way to not win A SINGLE GAME @ Bama...:hihi: PS You left off Shula OH THAT'S RIGHT HE WAS FIRED!!!!!!!
Probably. Michigan State was slightly better off, LSU was much better off, Miami was worse off. Nick will likely stick for four or more years. And if he is successful, his name will circulate as "one of the best" and major schools and NFL teams with openings will call. Nick isn't getting any younger and maybe he wants to settle down. Like the dog with a bone, Nick may have learned his lesson about leaving a winner, when he screwed up by leaving LSU. But one thing is also certain. Nick is a sucker for the hard sell. LSU stole him from Michigan State by coming right out with their top offer and granting him every wish he added to the pile including the offer to become the highest-paid coach in America. They were persistant, would not take NO for an aswer . . . and he came. Then Miami stole Nick from LSU after thay had just given him the best contract any coach in American had received. They did it by not taking NO for an answer. Four or five times Nick declined, and they just kept uping the ante until he folded. Then Bama stole Nick from Miami by not taking NO for an answer and again making him the richest college coach in America. So . . . the formula for getting Nick is well-known. When a time comes that another team wants him badly, they will get him. Nick has happy feet, amigo.
You know, combining the thoughts you voiced in your next posts, Perkins from Bama to Tampa was a situation with an NFL team stealing a HC. He was offered a lot of money for that move. Curry, quit. Stallings, ran off, but quit. DuBose, fired. Fran, the $ issue again to aTm, but quit. Price...let's just call it his destiny, fired. Shula, fired. Facts are, all of those coaches, save one, reached the 10 win mark in a season. Also, facts are, Stallings the only one who could handle the resposbility that comes with the job. Curry, DuBose, Price and Shula couldn't, fRan didn't know how to.
