I gave this response because I wasn't sure whether his toe on the line was or was not a safety. I now understand that it was a touchback because his toe wasn't over the line. Always learning here on Tiger Forums. :thumb:
same here. i had to think it through, where the plane must be in order for it make sense. if i learn much more i will know everything.
Considering what such a call would have meant for the game, (the ref deciding an LSU victory), I think the call was the right one even if he had broken the plane with his toe. I cannot imagine the press had we won on such a call unless the player's entire foot had been outside the endzone. Sometimes the ref needs to be absolutely sure when making a game changing call. The zebras should call them as they see them. It was a good call because the returner did not go over the plane of the goal but if he had the refs have a duty to the integrety of the game to call it a safety. None of that matters now because the Tigers won.
