I had to resist posting the pic of Fat Bastard w/ the turkey leg. Instead, the wine I always wanted to buy as a present for several "friends".

Bush tried to give them the Hispanic favor but the Republican base blew it off.

You are right. Republicans need to let social issues be handled by the church and family. As much as Govt should stay out of business it should also stay out of the social issues that rally the religious right.

The majority of the country is not facing tax hikes, only the top earners so it doesn't really affect them either way. Middle class were going to get basically the same taxes no matter who was elected. That is not a big issue to a slightly larger majority of Americans.

Now, Obama has no more campaigning to worry about. He can push his ideals harder without having to worry about poll numbers. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. Liberals are expecting a much stronger lean to the left that he has given them in the first 4 years. When Bush tried to push his "election mandate" the country swung the other way. I think that most people do not like a true Conservative or a Liberal.

They nominated the most liberal dude on their side that was in the running. They knew that a Santorum or a Bachmann would be a bigger disaster. Problem is that Romney still had to represent the extremes of the right while also trying to win the independents votes, but those two things are mutually exclusive nowadays. The GOP would be well-suited to distance itself from the far-righties because that element of the party will never decide a general election again.

For the record, I honestly hope that the Republican party regroups and comes back stronger, and I honestly believe that they will. Our country functions better when we have two or more viable political parties. I have many dear friends who are heavily involved in the Republican party and they are saying much the same this morning. I guess we'll see....

That's kinda true. Many blindly like Obama like we do Santa Claus. They just don't know why that doesn't help them as their president. You simply needed someone more likable bc the economy is so fucked it was a done deal if so. America is stupid but it's who we are.

you splitting hairs, Kyle. people voted for the guy who told them the truth about what has to be done in order to bring our fiscal house in order. this was supported by the fact that 80 CEO's from the nation's largest corporations signed onto an open letter to congress which implores them to reach a debt/deficit deal that includes both spending cuts and tax revenues.

I disagree. You were "splitting hairs" by making it sound like "most" people wanted Obama. Statistically, it was a tie. Did these same CEO's endorse Obama? In my job, I talk face to face with small business owners all day every day. It is a very rare thing to run across one who likes Obama and his policies.
