Have no idea but wouldn't equate star rankings to "Love of football". Plenty of one, two and even players who don't make it to college game who do hold football as their "First love" (Man, that sounded funny :hihi: ). Consider this, Jeff Samardzija wasn't even ranked, AJ Hawk only 3 star. What was their love??
coach miles let kids at oklahoma state play other sports. i believe that he lets them play other sports because its the right thing to do and because he has no problem with recruiting true athletes that have many talents. case in point, chad jones. he may go pro in baseball instead, but would have made a hell of a football player. by agreeing to let him play baseball, clm recruited a great athlete, even if it turns out that he never puts on a tiger uniform of any kind. i dont for a minute believe that miles recruits kids NOT thinking of how well they can contribute to the fb team.
I wasn't saying that the star rankings mean anything. I wasn't saying that he got recruited because of his love of the game. And I wasn't saying that Les just recruited for ****s and giggles. What I was saying was that everybody on here was being selfish about what they wanted him to do and not thinking of the best thing for him. Did anybody make this big of a deal over Bennie when he ran in the olympics, NO. This may be his only shot to at worlds you never know what is going to happen. But, in the end it was his decision and he made it. It was just the way everybody before me was saying things about he shouldn't run because he is on a football schollie. Would you have told Mitchell not to play in the CWS or even the SEC tourney if LSU would have made it and miss practice? My whole point was just because he is on a football schollie doesn't mean that other things you are great in have to go on the back burner. P.S lsutiga, I think Jeff Samardzija first love was proven to be baseball!!! Dont you think?
Good post Okie. :thumb: I meant it as low ratings being an indication of a lack of love for the game, but in the paragraph below, I sure read it to understand that his 2* rating factored in to your argument. Dunno, I do know he was All-American so he must've loved it pretty much- maybe he was a polygamist?? :hihi: Point in case, the career I ended up with wasn't my first love, but in all liklihood, pobably save to assume you are correct on that but then you are using "Star ratings"......or lack thereof, in the equation since you use it to make your case.
No one is telling Trindon he cant run at the meet. He made the decision for his own reasons. I am sure he knows how important he will be for the football team this year, he doesnt want to fall behind because he is ready for some football. Les is not going to make deals with his future at stake. Why would he take a chance at that and ruin it for other 2 sport ATHs he will want in future classes? It seems to me that you feel he is making a bad choice and that's OK. Dont make it out into something that it isn't. I know some would have felt the same way if he skipped football but I also know most would have respected his decision and wished him well.
I never said he shouldnt be allowed to run track. I just think, since he is on a football schollie, he should not skip football for track.
To my knowledge, NCAA rules forbid scholarship track athetes from playing football. Two-sport athletes must have football scholarships. This keeps overly ambitious football schools from loading a bunch of extra players on the track team scholarships.
