It makes you wish we could examine alternate timelines like they have in science fiction. Some people say Truman was wrong for nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki but it has been estimated that if allied force were to invade Japan over 500,000 allied forces and over a million Japanese would have lost their lives. Truman did the Japanese a favor by only killing a couple of hundred thousand of them. Nagasaki probably wasn't really necessary but the Japanese hadn't surrendered right away after the first one.
Truman while a Senator famously said if we see the Germans are winning we should aid the Russians and if we see the Russians are winning we should aid the Germans. And are you giving a democrat credit for something?
Truman was not the same as today's drmocrats. Kennedy would be considered a right winger by today's standards. If he hadn't had assassinated would there have been no Vietnam war?
