Yep, I was thinking the same thing about the whole scoreless game streak. I'm glad we gave it up too, the press loves to hype those things. Was that in front of the student section? I can't remember.
unless he had the ball in his left sock, Id say he scored but the replay didnt offer enough to overturn it.
If that would have been the last play of the game with LSU up by 4 do you think the ACC officals would have reversed the call? You know they would be thinking "we have to get out of here with our lives." I bet they would not have reversed it.
i said at the time, if it was tied or resembled a close game they'd never overturn it. you see it all the time in sports. different officiating depending on the score. human nature i suppose but i dont like it.
My impression was that he scored, but following the interpretation of replay rules, they should not have overturned it. The ruling on the field was "no TD" and no replayed (that they showed on TV anyway) showed that the ball got in. Actually, I'm still trying to find the late hit on Sanders on the Taylor run to the 3.
Not always, this was the first "replay" b4 there were replays in college football. Thank you Jumbotron operator. Those who were there know why !
I wasn't there, but I can still remember a half dozen Tigers standing around the ref pointing at the big screen. Good one, Hatcher!
As was said above, unless there was another replay angle... There is no way any of the replays shown on TV conclusively showed a TD. The roughing the passer call on Highsmith that negated an interception was BS also. College football officiating continues to be unpredictable and unreliable, including the replay system. That's why it's important to be able to win big and keep the game out of the refs' hands. Keep it up, boys!
