I think it would contribute a lot more to the "rivalry" aspect, as well as to the feeling between each team's fans of beating each other at home or away, if the LSU-UA game were ever played in Fayetteville. Why is the LSU game played away? Is it because no one is in Fayetteville on Thanksgiving weekend? Going to Little Rock to play UA doesn't really have a feeling of playing a regular opponent--it is more like playing a bowl game or a team from another conference.:geauxtige lefire:
Georgia Tech used to be in the SEC from 1933 to 1963 and then went independent. Tech is too much of a basketball and baseball school at this point to have a strong desire to leave the ACC to assume the role of a 'middle of the pack' football team in the SEC. And I actually think that it is a good thing that the instate football rivalries on the coast involve SEC vs ACC. Florida-FSU Georgia-Georgia Tech South Carolina-Clemson
How about this... Ark to Big12 north. Iowa St. to Big10 giving them 12. Memphis to SEC West, back to 12. Tulane drops program. La. Tech and ULL move into CUSA to get back to 12, makes more sense geographically for the conferece and teams. Navy and Army should consider the Big East. Navy could finish in the middle of the pack (at least) yearly.
I would be in favor of that Bayou Bengal. I'm from Orlando and still have a lot of family there. Would be super to return there and see the Tiger's play. Did that several years ago when they played Wake in the old Tangerine Bowl.
Maybe at some point, but doubtful in 2 years because their conference commissioner is on the BCS committee.
the rule for bcs automatic bid is that if conference champion is not in the top 12 in the final bcs rankings for 3 consecutive years (i think 3) they lose their bid...
I'd love to see the University of Houston or Baylor added. Baylor would make a great addition to the SEC IMO. They have good athletic programs, other then football. (The basketball fiasco would be a huge negative though) Also, it would help bring more quality acadmeics to the SEC. It'd also help LSU more to recruit in East Texas for prospects.
Assuming the rumor is true, I am for Louisville. They have a fine program and would be a good fit for the SEC.
TV markets are big in any conference realignment. No one really wants Arkansas when you think about it--no big tv market, but they are a good geographic fit for the SEC since they border, LA, MS, and TN. In reality Broyles should have waited and Arkansas could have been part of a big 12. The SEC should have told Broyles and South Carolina no thanks and waited for the implosion of the SWC to get Houston, SMU, Rice or TCU or FSU, Miami and UCF. Yeah they are not all football powers, but I don't think the rest of the SEC would complain and the SEC would have had a foothold in a some major markets. Houston has always had a lot of potential and SMU it they hadn't gotten the death penalty would have been a decent football power. So much talent in Texas that the right person could have done a lot at those schools. The SEC could have stipulated some requirements for any of those three to remain in the SEC like the Big East has with Temple. South Carolina would have found a home in the Big East or ACC and Arkie would have been in a big 12.
