Yeah the worlds against LSU...Didn't we have a player named Josh something that won the bietnakoff? Josh Reed was it???
We don't win the defensive ones, especially. Wilkerson won the Rimmington in '04 and Billy Cannon won the Heisman in '58. Other than the Biletnikoff won by Josh Reed, we haven't exactly gotten recognition like the USCs, Notre Dames, and Ohio States have, whether you realize that or not.
Tommie Harris won it on the strength of 2002 and 2001, where as Lavalais basically came out of nowhere. His 2003 season was indeed better.
Not arguing against that. Just saying that this "bias" against LSU that people always love to throw out there is laughable. I think OU has been more established for three or four more years before LSU came on in 01, and perhaps therein lies why Tommie Harris was given the nod over Lavailas...But to say there is some thing that people have against giving awards to LSU is just flat out ridiculous...
Why should we? It's not an equal playing field out there, my friend...Off or on the field. Of course ND gets more pub than we do, they're Notre Dame. And of course USC gets more pub than we do, they've had three heismans in a decade, two trips to the National Championship game, and a record that would make even Bear Bryant blush. Now, as for OSU, they won a NC in 2003 and are undefeated and #1 this year. When we do that, we will be in the same breath as USC, ND, and OSU.
First, we won in 2003. Second, what's your problem? If LSU players play just as well as any other, why not get them the award, like Lavalais who, statistically qualified and with a national championship ahead, didn't get it. These are player awards, not "Ok, your team is winning" awards.
What's my problem??? Other than not drinking as much purple and gold kool-aid than you, I don't have a problem. My point was that to sit here and debate the dumb "respect" topic is stupid. We're not mentioned with the USC's and the OSU's and the ND's because we are not quite in their class. I think Lavailas should have received the award, I'm not arguing against that. But to sit here and say we don't get the pub that USC gets is just stupid when you look at what they've done...
Okay, I can understand that argument, but let me ask you one question. What's your view on Les Miles?
I don't know enough about the X's and O's of coaching to make a judgement on his gameday coaching. His recruiting has been top notch as is his record thus far. Our play this year has me nervous, but I still support him and everyone on staff... Not to change the topic of this thread, but what's yours?
As for last year and so far this year, I am reserving judgement, but as I see how we play legit teams, my opinion is starting to become more solid. I'll give him the rest of this year and next year, but after that and if we still lose to the Tennessees, Georgias, Floridas, Auburns etc., in ugly fashions, I'll want him gone. He has no fire and I think that's something we need.
