Hester will start the first game

Yeah, 4.8 yards per carry with no fumbles and moving the chains is just not good enough. Sit the bum. :dis:

So what if he is not the type of back that jukes a lot, high steps, and tries to fake guys out. That stuff is way overrated in my book. All that dancing looks good but it can cost you a couple of yards when it does not work. The defenses are so fast now that any delays allows them to get positioning on you. So the first guy misses, but the second one got that extra step to get in position to get you.

I much prefer Hester's style of slipping forward with a head of steam. I think that this maximizes average yardage. I want our offense to be one that moves the chains and controls the games, not one that depends a back to make a super cut to break into the open field. I don't like infrequent 60 yard runs at the expense of more punts. Consistancy. That is just the kind of O I like. That extra two yards he got from hitting the hole quickly and falling forward as two tacklers hold on are the two yards that allow us to easily get the first down the next play instead of having to work hard for it.

Oh, and people still call Hester slow and that is just a crock. He is very fast.

Yeah, I wouldn't want a Reggie Bush-type RB with all that shiftiness, reversing fields, etc. He may lose a few yards. Definitely overrated.:hihi:

Hester is our leading rusher. He was the leading rusher last year and also the back with the most receptions, the most blocks, and picked up the most blitzes. I simply don't understand this Hesterphobia from some of us.

Murphy was the only other back that impressed me last night. He has speed and doesn't go down easily.

Holliday needs to learn how to follow his blockers instead of waiting for a crease to explode through. SEC defenses aren't going to give him one.

Williams looks like he's going to be the power back. Scott didn't get a single carry, which surprised me.

I agree, I like Hester. He's consistent as hell, just not pretty to look at.
Scott had 3 carries last night for 5 yards.

Scott is not listed in the rushing stats in the morning Advocate. Got a link to a more accurate stat sheet?

He's on the box score on LSUsports.net. I remeber one of his carries for sure, not really the other 2 though.

If one has concerns about the passing game, then logically they would want to see a tailback who can hit some HR's.

Hester's a nice player. I think he'd be better utilized as an H-back. K Williams as the short yardage/goalline back is a waste, IMO.

I'm not saying that Hester shouldn't get touches. On the contrary, I like his consistent style and ability to wear down a defense. However, he's a great fullback, and I'd just like to see him in that role more.

I think you'll find the YPC isn't going to drop just because a halfback has the ball. And there's no need to confuse wanting a halfback to carry with lateral running and lost yards situations. That's just silly.
