Did JV ever make a roster in the NFL? If not, what's he doing now? I always thought the his special teams play would land him a spot somewhere. The kid was great at getting down field and making stops. Thanks.
Interesting thread. I heard the audio as well, and Miles didn't say EXACTLY that Hester was the starting TB. However, head football coaches don't go into these events without preparing for the obvious questions. And of all the obvious ones, the TB situation had to be in the top 3. So, I don't think there's any doubt that his listing says something about his confidence level in Scott and Williams right now. Perhaps he's making a statement to these two gents: "it's still up for grabs - who wants it the most?" Perhaps he's worried about something he's seeing in practice. My biggest concern is that this team seems to me to be poised for greatness but for two nagging concerns - a reliable backup quarterback (lots of unrealized potential here), and a consistent ground threat. Check out the stats from Florida, Auburn, and Ole Miss last year. Sub-100 yard running games and we barely won one out of three. Hester is THE MAN. But he's not a franchise back that can open the game up for the QB and receivers. He's that utility FB that every coach in the country would LOVE to have - does it all and then some. But he does it 5 yards and cloud of dust at at time. I hope Williams or Scott step up, and Thurs would be a good time to make that happen! It could be the difference between a great season and a national championship season. Crunch _________________________________________ lsutigerbait.blogspot.com
I see Hester on the red zone a lot where his experience, versatiltiy, and dependability are vital. Williams/Scott/Murphy will use their talents to move the ball down the field. I hear Murphy is the quickest to the edge. Williams has that combination of speed and shifty balance that is deadly. That move he made on the TD run against Notre Dame was awesome. I guess Hester and Scott will be the powerbacks. Scott has that combination of speed and power that reminds me of Charles Alexander. Gentlemen, I give you the starter.
See, you can make a valid and interesting post when you try. But your smack is just too lame to even delete. And where are the other bulldogs? Don't you people take your football seriously? -- P. Bryant
Seemed like a mistake before the game, and definitely seems like a mistake after the game. It was painfully obvious that the running attack is OK with Hester at RB, but can be great with him at FB and a legit big play guy at RB (pick one of the three.)
That's the way I saw it too. Hester's a great all purpose type. An H-back. But he's not a feature tailback, especially when there are three other guys who might be.
