When I say smash mouth, I'm not talking about short yardage. There are times in a game when you want to line up and run the ball the entire series. Nothing demoralizes a defense more when you can drive the ball down the field by running it. It also wears them out and controls the clock.
Then our definitions are about the same. That is exactly what Hester can do. He moves the chains consistently and can is always moving downfield. I guess we just have two different views about his abilities to play smash mouth football. Hopefully our stable wont need Hester to do this too much with our RBs staying healthy and producing all year. KW will be our hit the edge to the sideline guy. CS will be our bust through the line and break it to the sideline back. Similar to KW but with more bulk to take hits head-on. RM will be a mixture of all the backs in my opinion. Not as strong as CS or Hester but able to hit the holes and break arm tackles. Hester will be our picking up the blitz, running through the tackles, catching the ball out of the backfield, blocking downfield back. He will also be the most dependable back regarding injury and turnovers. I dont think he has had a fumble in his career.
I don't have a problem with Hester named #1. It could be worse. We could have all of our offensive hopes layed in the lap of Tim Tebow.
He'd better.........and get a lot of touches, it was on that information I picked him instead of KW in the Fantasy League though I know KW is more of a threat to break it anytime he gets it. I really believe KW will be our big play-maker- I've been saying that since the begninning of last year when he was still on the bench........I guess we'll soon find out.
I agree. Would love to see a competitive game, which will be good for the SEC, ESPN, and the winning team (more so obviously for State than LSU). State needs the exposure of playing a very good team to the max, win or lose. We have been down for far too long and need to get the swagger back, which several of Jackie Sherrill's teams had. If you were in the stands, especially, you could just see it and feel it. You need to take the field believing that you can and will win. This team is now basically Croom's as only 8 players remain from Jackie's recruiting, but these 8 are good players. Go Dawgs!
