Yep. Though Hester is better than Vincent. But really, Scott, and Williams are better backs. Hester is a great football player, but if I was going to make a team I would pick one of those two over Hester.
If you were going to coach a championship team, you'd play all four. Southern California certainly will. I don't care who starts. We're going to have fresh backs in the fourth quarter.
I would agree that they are better runners but do they read the blitz, pick up blocks, and catch the ball out of the backfield as well? I am sure they have improved significantly this year, but it appears that the coaches think Hester is the best combination of all of these skills. Even so, it looks like they will all get plenty of carries.
how long before leslie makes gary crowton run CS b/t tackles 18 times a game then sit him out for a hangnail come week 5?
I don't recall Miles saying "hester will start vs. MSU"...all he said was, at this point in camp, if he was forced to order them, it would be Hester, Scott, Williams, and Murphy. He may start vs. MSU, but Miles hasn't proclaimed it...and he surely won't get the most carries. Who is on the field when the first snap happens means little to me.
Do we really have to go through this again? I'm so sick of hearing that Hester is a sold player but should not be an every down back and that KW is the greatest RB to grace the field in Tiger Stadium. If KW was getting it done in practice he would start. Period! There is no way Miles would play a player that didn't put LSU in the best position to win. If that was his policy we would loss 4-5 games a year and no top assist in the country would coach for him. All of our backs bring a little something to the table. It appears that Hester brings the most at this point...senor leadership, toughness, vision, great hands, blocking and the ability to pick up the blitz. All of the RBs will have plenty of opportunity to prove themselves this year. Does it really matter who is in the game for the first snap?
Hey, I know! Why don't we worry about it a little bit more? No matter what happens, we got to remember that this game will be nothing more than an intense run-through for Va Tech. There will be odd formations, rotations, and plays. Nothing sands a playbook better than playing it 100% against an opponent, good or no, that hasn't seen it before. This is not to say that MSU isn't good, because I believe that this year they are truly better than they have been the last three years. I just think that we're going to see some wierd stuff out there on all three aspects of the ball, trying to get stuff ready for what could be the hardest game of the year (other candidates being UF, Auburn, and Bama).
