Here are a few more numbers. These are SEC stats not national. Fumble recoveries: Bama #2 with 12, LSU #9 with 8 Tackles for loss: Bama #1, 88 for 373 yards and LSU #6, 70 for 304 yards Sacks: Bama #1, 34 for 242 yards and LSU #8 with 19 for 115 yards. Interceptions: Bama #3 with 13 and 258 return yards, LSU #4 with 12 and 184 return yards.
Re: well-called game.... Dang right, I remember it. I was there, sitting in the NE corner of the stadium. I remember our offense didn't do much at all that game but we were still in it at the end. Since instant replay was not (and is not now) in effect, the call should not have been overturned because of the Jumbotron. Technically, only an official who actually saw what happened as it happened could reverse the call. Now, before you rise up and try to run me out of here on a rail, let me say that the officials did make the right call in giving the ball to LSU. I could see it from where I was sitting down on the other end. Dang, it pains me to say that. It should be an old-fashioned, hard-hittin', snot-slingin' barn burner of a game. Good luck (but not too much).
And let us not forget these SEC stats: Kickoff returns LSU #1 averaging 27.1 yards Bama # 9 averaging 19.1 yards Punt returns LSU #2 averaging 16.8 yards Bama #11 averaging 8.2 yards Kickoff coverage LSU #1 averaging 16.9 yards Bama #11 averaging 22.9 yards We can take these guys in the kicking game, my friends.
You won't get any argument out of me on that. Our special teams have been ....................................special in a not too good of a way. lol I just cringe when we punt waiting to see how far the runback is. Bama's kicking game has been under fire by the fans for some time now.
Interesting stat in the paper today...... Alabama leads the league in sacks (35) LSU leads in not allowing sacks (9 allowed).....i think not throwing a whole lot and elusive QB's helps this.
Season opening games are often misleading. Many critics will say that a team makes their biggest improvement comming into their second game. I see several matchups for the weekend that should give us all something to look at. First is the line of scrimmage. 2 good lines on both sides of the ball. The battle in the trenches is where games are won and lost. Second is the kicking and special teams play. Bama's is scarey and of a major concern for me. Third is the passing game. We are throwing the ball well with both qbs and your dbs are defending well. Same when the ball is turned over. How is the LSU depth at db? Will Bama play a waiting game till we get the right defenders against our better recievers? Fourth is penalties. How big of a factor will the zebras be in this game? Fifth is game plan. Whose stratigy will exploit the opposition the most. Sixth is whose tailgate party had the best food. I can hardly wait to get there.
