Was she at the press conference when this happened? If she was, I'll bet she was mortified. And, I'm glad. As Gundy mentioned, going after professional athletes or coaches is one thing, but going after a student-athlete who makes the right decisions off the field is crossing the line.
It sure seemed as thought she was there because his focus was in one direction pretty much the entire time and he was quite animated with the direction of his gestures while saying "YOU". LOL! She must have felt an inch tall!
what i read on an osu board is that he was addressing her directly as she was there. i hope the applause at the end made her feel less than an inch tall!
Apparently Dennis Dodd writes so much like her that he took the dressing down personally. http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/10368451 This is what is never going to change, Mike: We're going to write our opinions because this is America. Free press and all that. You might not agree, but when you don't, for your career's sake, keep it to yourself. For the rest of the season, maybe that entire career, this is going to be an issue with you. The hot-head coach who can't take fair criticism. Maybe recruits will love it. And maybe their parents will want them to be in a program where the coach is more level-headed. We have the pen, always, Mike. You have a job, for now. My letter to him: Wow, you think you are bigger and more important than the game, like the radio hack who once said, "We made Bobby Bowden, and we can break him". Forgo responsibility and hide behind the first amendment, threaten to let your pen run with poison yet tell Gundy to keep his opinion to himself. Your logic is ...well, there isn't any. BTW, if my mom wants to feed me chicken I will let you know so you can write about it. It has as much relevance to football as the story already in print.
Dodd is WAY OFF BASE here. First of all, this bimbo's column was a story. It wasnt an op'ed opinion column. BIG DIFFERENCE. Secondly, the bimbo went WAY OVER BOARD with questioning this kids heart, head and mental ability. It was totally uncalled for and Dodd is being a complete douche.
i have friends who like dodd but i never have. he thinks its a one way street. that journalists (loosely used term) can dish it out all they want but when a coach fires back it's uncalled for. that's BS!!! what a pansy!! he wants to sling all the arrows he wants without being a target himself. what a baby.
non LSU: anyone see this? Okie State coach Mike Gundy tore that reporter who wrote the story about his QB a new one. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3034387
First, from what the coach was saying, the article was largely inaccurate. A journalist has every right to print what they want, but going along with that right is the responsibility to be both accurate and fair. Secondly, if the press has the right to criticize a team, the coaches have a right to criticize the press. No one in this country is beyond criticism.
