Polls such as this serve no real purpose. I admire the attempt to stir the pot, but what does this accomplish? I mean, I knew most were ready to write off Randall earlier in the season. I didn't put a poll up about it. It's obvious what the consensus here is. Well, it's obvious what the consensus here is to everyone but McDltSt.Louie and his glorious green buttons of reputation (Given by who knows whom ;-) ) Russell is 19...Davey took till the age of 22 to ripen on the vine...and no one in hindsight would say the kid was a bust considering the success he had in one big game, one big bowl game, and one full season...
He had all of last year to learn the offense. To practice the little patterns that should be easy to complete. He had all of last year to learn how to lead a reciever properly and to learn that his hands are not at his feet. He had 11 games this year of live action to progress, to show improvement. He hasn't. I'm not writing him off but I think that if he wants to be a success he's going to have to show something pretty soon.
I read a couple of posts today that seemed to indicate that some people were giving up on Russell. Rather than get into a pissing match in the thread, I just put up the poll. Not "stirring the pot", just curious.
Rohan Davey had an entire summer program, off season training, an entire redshirt freshman season, and then an entire spring and another offseason and fall camp...He threw 2 picks in less than one half of football in '99... He turned out to be an elite level NCAA Quarterback who set almost every single season passing record LSU had on the books...
I voted "no". JR is EXTREMELY young. He'll spend time this off season maturing a bit, hopefully become the leader that M.R. was in our last game. He has the potential. He just needs to be a little smarter and get his offense to believe in him.
For those of you who are too young to remember, Tommy Hodson proved you can be a successful winning freshman QB at LSU, especially when you have talented WRs to throw to, a good running game, and a good offensive line. There are no excuses why any QB can't be successful in LSU's offense. LSU already has a great running game, talented WRs, and very good line. Prediction: Flynn will win the starting QB job and JR will be backup at start of next season. ldskule: :geaux:
Prediction: JR has big game experience and will know that he has to step up b/c there will be no 5 year senior to take the negative press. JR will come out next year firing with Flynn 2nd string but possibly sharing time... all this is conditional on whether or not Ryan Perriloux decides to commit here... RP comes he probably gets the start.
