Obviously, although you think I make some great points, you missed at least one of my points. The trends THE LAST TWO YEARS??? '08----TERRIBLE defense...TERRIBLE QB play. 5 loss season, 3-5 in SEC play. '09----TERRIBLE offense...better QB play. 4 loss season, 5-3 in SEC play. That's right, I said better QB play. Go look up the stats and prove otherwise. 2 game improvement in conference play. Arses never handed to us...we were in EVERY game, including UF and Bama. '08? UF and UGA handed our arses to us. Blowout losses. There wasn't a team that came close to blowing us out last season. It took a bowl game against GT to even make '08 tolerable, but somehow, a 9-3 regular season is a downward trend following a 7-5 regular season?? So why was last season better than '08? Because Coach Miles realized his mistake with the Co-DCs and corrected it. Do you really have no faith that he has realized his mistake with the offense/clock management issues, and has taken steps to correct them? I fully do. I don't know what this season will bring in terms of W-L, but I have total confidence that we will see improvements over last season, which was an improvement over '08. To me, I see an UPWARD "trend". 2008 was a blip on the radar. I wasn't on this board in '02, but I would seriously doubt the hatred and doubting that Miles is enduring from this fanbase was prevalent when Saban won 7 games following an SEC Cship. Did people call '02 a downward trend? What about '04? Yes, I know Saban was building a program, and for that reason, I don't include his first season. But when you win the SECC, then lose 5 games, then win the BCSCG, then lose 5 games then next season, then bolt for "greener pastures", how can you be held in higher regard than Miles? Because of what he's done at Bama?? That has nothing to do with LSU...and he's only been at Bama 3 years. Let's see what happens...let it all play out. I don't like excuses, but then again, I've never heard Coach Miles use this as one. But it MUST be factored in that RP left a GAPING hole in this program. That wasn't Miles' fault, and in fact, he handled it VERY well by all accounts. We were left with a Harvard transfer and a freshmen with promise. I was guilty as anyone, but what did we think was gonna come of that?? It was a disaster before it started. After a while, you just have to realize the situation at QB (Perrilloux's fault) is the reason for this downward "trend". Most coaches that go 5-3 in the SEC with a green QB would be praised...only losing to UF, Bama, a good Ole Miss team, and a good PSU in the bowl. But no, our coach is an idiot according to our own fans. What loyalty... Paradiseinc, I did not intend all of this to be aimed at you. I only quoted your post to address the "trend" of which you speak. IMO, there is no downward "trend". When you have a 7-5 regular season followed by a 9-3 regular season, that's an upward "trend" if anything.
What's so funny? Do you have anything to offer to counter anything I wrote? Is there misinformation in what I wrote? Can you discount anything I wrote? opcorn:
Fish, I agree with a lot of your points, but I don't know that I can agree that last year was an improvement over 2008. Yes the W-L record was better but a lot of the same problems/issues remained. And look at who we beat. The best record of the teams we beat was 7-5 and if you combine the records for our 9 Ws it's 46-62. I like and respect Les. He's a decent and honorable man. But you know as well as I that today it's "What have you done for me lately?". And the way I read Alleva's comments is that 2010 is a make or break year for Les. Hell, I'd love for us to run the table, but realistically speaking that ain't gunna happen.
Fair enough, but let's think about this. What about the UF game in '08 vs the UF game in '09? Like I stated, we got our arses handed to us on more than one occasion in '08...but never in '09. Obviously, I'm sure we can agree the offense was abysmal in '09, at least the running game. But there were definite improvements on the other side of the ball, and I expect similar if not better improvements on O this season. We'll have to wait and see.
Dude, if you were serious when you wrote that lil gem it's comical. I hope you were just on joke time...
fourth?! i think it's simply a personal vendetta now. there is no way in hell i look at all the teams, players, schedules and honestly say LSU finishes fourth in the west. i just don't see it. it would mean that we lose a game each to alabama, auburn, and arkansas. i guess it's possible, but i don't see us losing more than one of those games. alabama is the team to beat, but look how close we came last season. we all think this LSU team will be better than last season, so does that mean that all of the other teams are going to be a lot better as well? how is it that auburn is going to be able to answer all of its questions, but there is a slim chance in hell that LSU answers the same questions? no one knows what the hell is going to happen, i just hope that the players and coaches are using this as motivation. if they do take it as motivation, it could be the one variable needed for us to really come together and take the world by storm. :geaux:
