^----I agree with this. As good as our defense is, there are actually a few issues that need to be touched upon. First off, stripping the ball and causing a fumble is great, but only if the guy is being gang tackled already. On Masoli's TD, they could have tackled him at the 10 yard line, but kept fondling him trying to strip the ball. Thats just dumb right there. Second, our defensive ends and/or blitzing Safety/LB/Corner is having issues with containment or over-pursuit. Sometimes, they are getting WAY too far into the backfield and the QB/RB is able to cut right inside them into a huge seam where they can cut outside behind the corner or run for 10+ yards up the middle. Other times, they are getting blocked down way too easily or coming way too far inside and/or missing a tackle and not containing to the inside. With Ole Miss/Auburn's speed, that hurts us often. Third, arm tackles are not successful and when you are set up directly in front of the RB, perfectly prepared to make the tackle, don't dive at his feet. Wrap him up and at least if you don't take him down, you have teammates who can. Lastly, we're giving the WR's way too much cushion. Thats why we're getting smoked on those slants, short hitches, and out routes. Against Mallet, that is NOT going to work. They'll eat us up all the way down the field 6-10 yards at a time, and our D-line won't be nearly effective because Mallet will be firing off the ball after only 2-3 steps. Our Dbacks are good enough to play press, especially is we're playing a cover 2 with safeties over the top. Chavis is going to have his hands full with Arkansas. I know we can come through, but I hope we tackle well and have a good defensive game plan. ( Oh, and LSUpride123, you're absolutely correct. Sheppard got caught up in WAY too many blocks. In fact, there were 4 or 5 times that the RB within a hair's breadth, right past him, and he literally just stood there. He had a rough night )
That's two games in a row. How do you not realize game situations and know that all you want to do is make a tackle, not look like a stud by taking someone's head off. Well he actually did take Claiborne's head off.
He had to be out there...especially in the second half. He was out there because Taylor's out hurt. Then in the second half, he had to be out there since he decapitated Claiborne.
Agree couldnt believe he played that bad LSU...LSU has alot of overrated players and players not progressing like they should mentally and physically
