The SEC will decide if this game is played, not Ears or AU's AD. for the record, who cares if the storm will be north of Auburn, AL by Saturday morning. there are much more serious things to be concerned about here such as power outages, downed trees, extensive flooding, the need for emergency personnel at places throughout the state other than a football game. the latest forecast on the national hurricane center website states the hurricane is expected to start stalling as it reaches the inland toward the Appalachians causing very dangerous flooding situations. the storm currently has hurricane force winds extending 100 miles from the eye, and tropical storm winds extending 240 miles. KEEP IN MIND, IF THIS STORM DECIDES TO GO TOWARDS N.O., THEY ARE ESTIMATING THE CITY COULD BE UNDER 12-18 FEET OF WATER. Do you want to chance fate with something that can do that? Not me. I am totally ready for this game Saturday, and I will be bummed out if it is cancelled, but there are certain times when football has to take a backseat to more important things in life, and this seems to be one of those times IMO.
Actually, the SEC doesn't decide, Auburn's president has final say in the matter except for LSU not being able to travel. If the Tigers cannot get there then they call Auburns' president and the SEC and in effect LSU would be the one calling off the game. Otherwise it's up to the prez.
weather channel shows it will be past auburn by friday evening, and hitting north carolina/tennessee by saturday evening. http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm9/index_large.html
SO WHAT if it will be past Auburn then! That is just hours before scheduled kickoff. People from the FLA panhandle to New Orleans have evacuated the Gulf Coast. And, they won't be back until the weekend at the earliest. We are talking about millions of people leaving. Both schools involved in the game have canceled classes for the week already. My God, it is insane that the game has not already been moved to November. How are LSU fans supposed to get to the game? On interstates which will be flooded by cars trying to get to or from homes all over the Gulf South? The SEC better not let Auburn try to pull a fast one just because their embattled coach wants a perceived small added advantage for the game. I just hope that, if by some insane result, the game is played Saturday, that LSU uses the anger over Auburn's selfishness to bust the up.
Take a closer look at that map. If it makes landfall, say, near Mobile (very, very possible), this large storm and all of it's rain will be over the state of Alabama for NEARLY 36 HOURS. If it slows *that* much after making landfall to the *west* of Auburn and meanders towards the *northeast*, it sure seems to me that Auburn may be in for a serious amount of rainfall between Thurs. AM and Fri. night. If you don't think a slow moving tropical weather system can dump a serious amount of water over a restricted area, think again. I lived through the 22-30 inches of rain Tropical Storm Allison dumped on Houston in just 12 hours.
Auburn University is showing it true colors of how low their atheletic program is. Their coach knows that if the game is pushed back he will lose 3 games in a row and get fired. I just went over I-65 and there is a steady stream of cars coming from the south. This state puts more emphasis in sports than the safety of its residents. People were complaining that it was taking 6 hours to get from Mobile to Montgomery but the Governor said that traffic wasn't a problem on the interstates. There were a couple wrecks and he saw no need to make the entire interstate one way. He would rather people sit in traffic than make sure they get to a safe. The people on the coast have enough stress to worry about than sitting in traffic and worrying if a game will be played Saturday. This is more of Tub-O-Chit being the little crap that he is. Now I know why true Auburn fans wants his arse fired. LSUDAN
