Harris is the QB of the future. I don't think there are too many who could argue with this simply given the separation between he and Jennings talent-wise. That said, Jennings has had an entire year long head start learning the playbook, becoming more comfortable in game situations, acclimating to college life, etc. And let's be clear, Jennings is a talented kid and has the tools to be a successful game manager type. Harris is a game changer in training but until he is ready, Jennings will be our guy. Jennings gives us the better chance to win most games this year. Harris' appearances will be more frequent as we get to the back side of the season but this is Jennings team for the rest of this year IMO. If Harris puts in the time over the summer and off-season, I sincerely believe he will be our starter from the get go next year and never look back. Even better, then we have Jennings as a back up who has a whole season of game experience.
At first I too thought Harris was our guy. But after the Auburn game it was plain to see that he needs a lot more time. He is very talented no doubt, but we need to train him, he needs to learn the plays, his routes, and his line's routes. Many times during his play he left the box too soon, or went the wrong direction. This was evidence of his minor knowledge of the plays, and his nerves. Jennings at least has a grasp of the playbook and his routes. He's not perfect but he is better in this area in my opinion. I think Jennings starts, and we put Harris in when an opportunity arises to keep him focused and accustomed to college football. And I think Jennings has potential as well. Next year we could have 2 very decent QBs for a change.
Even if he was able to play, it may have been a good idea to hold him out as long as Jennings was getting it done. We absolutely cannot afford an injury to either of these quarterbacks. We are far too thin. People who think we will never see Harris again are on crack.
10 of 21 for 110 yards and 1 TD is far from admirable. that a 47% completion rate, he definately did a ddecent job of managing the game, i thought he took too many sacks, he could have thrown the ball away a few times, but that type of game will not WIN games. The running game won that game against Florida, when other teams stop our running game do you think those type of numbers will win games against, ole miss, bama, texas a&m? I am enjoying the win and will continue to enjoy it, I just don't think Jennings will be able to win games when we have to count on his arm. One other [point no one is talking about is do you think we win the game if the florida tight end does'nt drop the TD catch in the endzone? I would'nt feel good having to count on Jenning's arm to bring us down the field for a Touchdown. Make no mistake about it I think Jennings if a good football student, he really studies alot of film on defenses and is right now the clamer of the two QB's and deserves to start, but I think we should find harris a drive or two in every game we play.
Arm strength, the ability to find other reciever OTHER than Dural. Harris can make every throw on the field, can't say the same about jennings. Like I said, I'm not saying Jennings should not be starting, I'm jsut saying Harris should be getting a couple of series every game, not just wait untill jennings is stinking it up. I would say the same thing about jennings if Harris was starting, I think both QB's deserves snaps untill one just completely seperates himself from the other.
Brandon Harris was 3-14 for 58 yards against a weaker defense in Auburn as long as we are pointing out statistics.
And Jennings was 2-5 for 11 yards and 2 int's against New Mexico State!! Who's defense is a LITTLE worst that both Florida and Auburn??? So what's your point?
