Tiger1958, What's your point about Tommy Frazier? Yes, he was basically a running back playing QB. Still, he was a good passer to go with his awesome running skills. I never thought Timmy Chang or any BYU QBs were the best of the best in college football. I thought some of them were good, but they usually had misleading stats. The Rocket should have won The Heisman the year Ty Detmer won it.
Just so you know Tommy Frazier was one of the ONLY QB's to be able to run and throw. WITH ACCURACY! Yes Timmy Chang threw a TON. But the offense was built around HIM, look at them now. Changed the offense because the person behind him can't throw it all game. Chang was a stud at QB. Why do you think a QB gets as many throws as a QB, because he can't make them?, listen Hawaiis Coordinater made that offense KNOWING that Chang would throw all the time. You don't see an offense like that, besides the BYU QB days! And I agree the BYU QB's, McMahon Young and Detmer were some of THE BEST QB's in college history!LSU!
Guilbeau is an idiot. The Peach Bowl was an eye opener for the coaching staff. They had no idea that Flynn was that good. He did things Fisher didn't coach and did them really well. You guys need to get a grip on reality. When all is said and done and both of those players graduate and move on the NFL, folks will wonder why Russell was ahead of Flynn. MF is the complete package. Russell isn't. He is not mobile, can't read defenses and can't check down. For just about the whole regular season, the offense suffered from lack of leadership and consistency. I know, you want to blame it on Addai's injury and other things that didn't help, but facts are inconvenient in that they are facts and the fact is there was no leadership in the offensive huddle and no one stepped up to take charge. That all changed in the Peach Bowl. Go back to what Whitworth said after the game about never having played with a quarterback who had that kind of command in the huddle. Didn't he play with JR all year? In any case, Guilbeau's piece is just one opinion from a sportswriter, and having been a news reporter and editor I can tell you that the sports desk has never been the place where the intellectuals were sent to observe, philosophize and report to us mere "ignorant" mortals.
You failed to mention that JR started 12 games and won 10. Insignificant "convenient fact"? Look, you are entitled to your opinion, but understand that the backup QB is always the most popular player on any team.
he sure is. Let me ask you this sabanfan... If Russel comes out next year and has an average year, will you want to see flynn get some PT?
so do I. I dont care if it means Les himself has to play QB. But, in the situation that Russel just doesnt show that he's progressing, and LSU is say... 5-3... do you let flynn play?
And how is this a contradiction? JR could have had better personal stats against Miami, but I just don't know how possible it is to beat a team worse than we did Miami. I'm not convinced LSU would have won any more, or even the same amount, of games with Flynn at QB all season.
I'm not talking about how he's remembered. I'm talking about how good he is. The key here is, could a better QB have gotten better results? Could Matt Leinhart have done a more impressive job quarterbacking LSU's team this past season than JaMarcus Russell - could we have won more games? I think the answer is yes. ALSO, Timmy Chang didn't have one of the best careers - he led the country (or was close) in interceptions. He wasn't very good.
