dropping him on nsd eve? no, that never happens. he now has to find a backup school. we picture it as a football team but its his life. lthings you dont think about - he has to find a roomate. does he have a ride there if he doesnt have a car? its more than football practice. no coach should ever do that. doing this doesnt mirror clm personality but it was an was an ******* thing to do (if that is how it happened).
Why? Because LSU finally got tired of a kid that dicked the coaches around for the past 2 years? Good Riddance. Maybe the kid should have had more loyalty to the program that devoted 2 years to him and signed earlier?
The other thing that is so chicken **** is that for these kids to say yes to one school, they have to say no to all the others. Then those other schools have to fill that spot. I'm glad there was a top notch program for him to go to on such short notice, but it could have very easily caused either him or some one else to lose out. Hell for all we know, chizik got that fax and had to call the backup plan and tell him he's out. What a effed up situation.
:thumb: It DOES suck for Mr. Benton, but he could've worked harder to become qualified in one of the past two years if he was really determined to do so. He might never play a single down for Auburn because of academic troubles. And that sucks, too. The reason you go to college is to prepare for a career. If your preferred career is football, maybe all you should have to have is "football smarts". I don't know. I wish him well and hope he finds great success in the future, except when he plays against LSU. In the movie "North Dallas Forty", the character O.W Shaddock is angry with his position coach. O.W. reams out Coach Johnson: "Every time I call it a game, you say it's a business. Every time I say it's a business, you call it a game!" TECHNICALLY, college football is not a business...but if you don't run your team like a business, you don't win many games. CLM made the best choice for the team. Mr. Benton was, unfortunately, NOT the better choice. Would have been great to have both men on our team, but if we could land only one, CLM caught the "better" one. At least that's how I see it. :geaux:
You are right that it is hypocritical, but I think we all are hypocrits from time to time. Maybe it's bad karma, but it's generally good business. And despite what each of us think about this or any other situation, unless we know absolutely each and every fact and statement made and each and every action of all of the parties, we do not know enough to make an absolute judgment on the matter, just enough surmise, guess and piss and moan about it - then again pissin and moanin is generally more interesting and fun (probably why is is so popular among us college football fans in general) Regardless, we have a great class, Benton, Bell and some other LA players we would have liked to be a part of that class are not and we cannot change that fact. No more that we can change the fact that Tirk always has the best avitar and I always wonder if that is really TexasTiger in his avitar. Never mind me, lets move on to baseball the CWS. :geaux:ldskule:
so we sign benton and criticize miles for losing RR (and just think if we lost him to bama). it's a no win for les. we ended up with the better player in most people's eyes. put the blame on the player who put miles in a bad situation. and no miles isn't blameless but if he signs benton and RR goes elsewhere this city melts the eff down.
The truth is we pulled his offer. The bottomline is he had an offer in 2007 and 2008. I feel bad for this young man. I think it's wrong how it happen but he really only has himself to blame. He should be going into his junior year!
Agree completely. Some people see everything through purple & gold glasses. I'm having a hard time believing our staff would fold to a recruits dad like that, but all signs point to that they did. That's pathetic.
But then it would be a common event that caused the problem. KIDS change their minds and make decisions based on the worng reasons all the time. It is expected. You guys that are saying it's Benton's fault, Some guys are just not great students. He may have busted his ass and did his best. (I don't know that to be the case, but I think he deserves that assumption based on the fact he was sticking with it and not working for walmart. Him not qualifying last year was his HS coach's fault not his. He did what he was told, but the coach didn't understand the rules. I'm as glad as anyone that RR is a Tiger, but I do not like the method that was used to make that happen.
