Boy!!! Am I ever showing my age? Around 25 yrs ago, LSU played Washington in a day game.....Didn't seem so important at the time.....UW was much higher rated than I thought at the time. Wash. walked out like "WE ARE THE ONES. FEAR US....." By halftime, LSU had already handed them their asses. LSU whipped that butt SO bad, I didn't think the game was even interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'M A CHEAP SON OF A GUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!My "favorite" LSU game was in the 80's. LSU homecoming......playing Kentucky.....I took one of my sons to the game....got there real early......walked around looking at all the homecoming festivities.....no tickets..........found a Kentucky dude with so many tickets that it looked like two decks of cards when he spread them out. Sold me two for $5 each. Since it was so early, we walked around viewing the different stuff...told my son, "Let's try something." Held up the two tickets..(I think $13 face value) Sold them....went back and bought two more. A young student came up and asked me if those two that I now held up, were in the south end zone. Yes. He had a wad of tickets that he said his dad had sent him....said he would give me four for my two since all his friends were partying in the so. ezone. ok. Held them up for sell.....sold them...went back and bought two more.....My son and I went in the game using two tickets...we bought $8/9 burgers and stuff..remember-------those prices would be 3-4 times higher now......got to our seats and I had almost $80 more than I started with......With todays prices,----that's like free tickets, free food, and an extra couple hundred bucks........NO SCALPING----------- Love dem tiger fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! H
In person should be a qualifier for this discussion. For me: Football - vs. Tennessee in the overtime game of 2000 was great. Saban's first year and we were taking down a highly ranked team for the first time in a while. Lots of scoring and a thrilling overtime victory to boot. It was LSU's first OT game/win and the first time I'd rushed the field. Honorable mention: UGA 2003, Sugar Bowl 2001 Basketball - vs. Arizona in 99-00 season. Was in the PMAC early as LSU had gotten out to a good start and this was the first real test of the season. This ended up being the Sweet 16 team's breakout performance as they jumped on the Wildcats early and often in a super first half punctuated by Jabari Smith's fake behind the back fast break slam as time expired. The PMAC was going nuts! Also, I remember Richard Jefferson was on crutches and as the team was in shootaround way before the game. He wandered over to the side in front of the student section and we started a chant like "Jefferson sucks" and he had this look of amazement that fans were there that early and were giving grief to a guy on crutches.
LSU fans rude to an opposing player? surely you're joking :hihi: I remember this game, it wasn't televised I listened to it on the radio... hasn't lsu beaten zona' a couple times in the early season games when they were highly rated?
My first semester at LSU...we won 41-14. Games in person...Basketball...1986 in the NCAA tourney...against Purdue in 3 OT's and then Memephis St with the last second shot to win. 1999/2000 against Kentucky...My son was 5 and his first game. He still talks about that game. Football...2003 UGA in Tiger Stadium...2004 Oregon St...2005 Auburn.
In Person: Florida 2005 Auburn 2005 Bama 2005 I flew into BR for the FL. and AU games, then DROVE down to T-town (around 750 miles in one day) with a bama friend from my ship here in virginia. He even told me that was the greatest game he'd ever seen, even though they lost. I swear you could hear a pin drop for about 2 seconds after that JR to bowe throw. then all you heard was "LSU LSU LSU" My friend said he couldnt go to sleep that night, and all he could hear in his head was "LSU LSU LSU LSU" hahahaha
