I stand corrected guys. Damn, all these years I'm thinking 1958. Sure glad I wasn't too obnoxious in my disagreement.
This happens every year. I wasn't joking when I said I look it up every year just to make sure. Geaux Tigers! When I am so damn sure that what I am thinking is right that I am willing to bet the farm on it. That is when I need to back up and get some one elses opinion.
I vote for the Bert Jones to Brad Davis touchdown in 1972 with 1 second on the clock against Ole Miss, 'cuz I was there. Next I vote for the Earthquake touchdown in 1988 against Auburn. Thirdly, I vote for the the two NCAA tournament wins by the basketball team in 1986, I believe, when we beat Purdue & Memphis State here in the Deaf Dome.
And there you have it...It's exciting plays like that in all LSU sports and hearing Jim Hawthorne say "Tigers Win! Tigers Win!" that give me goose bumps when I hear it. It's also why I pick my Board name. I just can't get enough of hearing Jim say those words! :geaux:
These are all great plays. Perhaps a top ten list is in order. I go for the Morris home run for #1 because it won us a National Championship. Cannon # 2 because it won a Heisman trophy. 1. Warren Morris Home run wins 1996 NC 2. Billy Cannon Punt return earns 1959 Heisman 3. Bert Jones to Davis pass with no time left 1972 4. Eddie Fuller Earthquake Game reception 1988 5. Basketball win over #1 Kentucky in 1978 6. Football win over #1 Florida in 1997 7. Bluegrass Miracle Hail Mary 2002 8. Lowest seeded basketball team to ever make the final four 1987 9. Womens Track wins 10 straight National Championships 10. Undefeated LSU beats Clemson in Sugar Bowl to win 1958 National Championship
I forgot about that one. A HUGE win. Generated tremendous local interest in the basketball program for the 1st time since Maravich.
Nice list, red. No. 8 should be changed to 1986, though. We lost to Indiana in the Regional Finals in '87 (Fess Irvin missing free throws, Knight banging the phone, Nikita Wilson's shot falls short, etc.). We lost to Louisville and "Never Nervous" Pervis Ellison in the '86 Final Four.
I have to go with Warren Morris home run because it won a national championship with one swing of the bat. Cannon's punt return and Bert Jones and Tommy Hodsons last second TD passes were great Tiger moments as was Anthony Wilson's last second shot to beat Memphis State in the playoffs but Morris' dinger was the only play that directly won the big one.
