I think the bad taste in many of our mouths is over the painting of Lowery and his band of idiots as "victims" and Johns and JJ as "aggressors." I'm not at all sure that is the case. The whole thing has been "tried" in the media, calling Lowery "the Marine" and suggesting he was a hero, when some video evidence would point to the contrary.
No one is saying they are not doing their job but it is the way they have handles which most who have experience with the Baton Rouge legal system agree was a dog and pony show. Many in the BRPD and beyond agreed too and made them stop doing daily media sessions and press conferences over a bar fight. It took attorneys to go try to get statements from others not biased to the alleged victims side of the incident. Hell, they didn't even talk to the bar employees at least up until 2 weeks after the incident and still haven't seen any information that the BRPD corrected that mistake. When was the last time you saw police go take shoes and clothing after a bar fight especially when they knew it would be a shot in the dark.
The police botched the handling of this case. They spent a week confirming statements from the alleged victims publicly. The Police Chief held a press conference to answer questions so that everyone would know what was alleged. Then when they interviewed the LSU players and got their side of the story, they clammed up and have said nothing since . . . like they should have done in the first place. This allowed the alleged victims lawyer to try the case in the media with no response from LSU players who were forbidden to speak about it. He obviously trying to set up a civil suit against the players and LSU. The police played right into his hands by making public statements, releasing the arrest report before charges were brought, and then by making felony arrests without evidence other than contradictory testimony. It was a bar fight, 90% of which end up with no charges being files and most of the rest end up with all involved being charged. The police handled this badly.
+1 Lowery and company will try to hit the litigation lottery if the charges stick, regardless of how ridiculous the suit is. They may be degenerates, but they were smart enough to hire attorneys within 24 hours of the fight.
yep, it is my belief that has been the real intention here all along. and as red pointed out, the brpd let me ambulance chaser drive this in the media and played right into it. they just set it up for a civil suit.:dis:
JJ's lawyer was on WWL this morning describing all of his witnesses and accusers. He said they will present all this to the grand jury tomorrow but it will likely take 2 sessions. It's up to the judge when to have the second session but likely next week.
I think he's suggesting that the DA will present all of the evidence to the Grand Jury for them to decide. In other words the DA isn't going for the kill here by withholding defense evidence. He doesn't want to prosecute this or he would have brought charges himself.
