I'm not sure Harris can throw a screen without throwing either too high or into the ground. That swing pass to Fournette should have been a no brainer but Harris threw it at his feet.
He is definitely better throwing rifle shots than short passes that need touch. He seems to have gotten the fade route pretty good.
Take a look at the offensive play call against Florida. Do you really believe that we simply lack greater variety than what we showed last night? I certainly don't.
It's one thing to see a couple of new plays in a big game against a good team; especially in an offense as rudimentary and unimaginative as ours. Quite another to think a secret, never before used playbook will be unveiled during the Bama game. If it wasn't done in the 2012 national championship game, when we showed up with the same ole tired gameplan that we used in the first game with Bama that year, why would anyone think it will be done in 2 weeks?
I don't believe in a secret playbook; that's what another poster posited of me. I believe that Miles limited the variety of the play call because he didn't want to reveal anything. I tend to believe closer to your first proposition: that we will see some new plays within the same scheme. There are a lot of things that differentiate this team from the 2012 national championship team, the greatest being the ratio of performance between defense and offense, but that's for another thread. Having read your first sentence, it seems we're closer to agreement than I originally thought. I think we'll see a lot of play action hopefully some roll out passes, and one to three high-risk, high-reward plays.
You know something, I've noticed that our oline blocking on play action has been awful on many occasions, anyone else notice this?
The other guys was a step faster and Dural started cutting the wrong way because he saw the defender on his left but not on his right.
I think one thing the coaches need credit for is adjusting the game plan. The run was working but it wasn't dominant for 3 quarters last night and the coaching staff let Harris throw the ball, in the rain. They should get credit for that.
