Coaching- B = The play calling was much more aggressive. The addition of Cam really showed up. Our passing attack is much better this year. I really like what I see here. Chavis once again did another fine job. As a whole LSU does a tremendous job of coaching up talent. My main issue is the lack of focus on the team. I cant help but put a lot of that on Miles. He once again had another end of the half coaching blunder. Overall though the coaching was very good.[/quote] Uhh...how was that Miles fault again? Really...maybe I missed something. Seemed like that whole fiasco was the refs fault.
The end to half time was really confusing. I thought only a false start or something along those lines in the last minute would cause a ten second runoff. And then I didn't understand the whole explanation of "well it was an incomplete pass thrown, so there really is still 5 seconds left on the clock". The announcers or sideline reporter did confirm what Les said about it being the helmet coming off of the lineman. So Les wasn't talking out the side of his ass there. Still don't get the incomplete pass part.
I just re-watched, and the refs were going to run off 10 seconds strictly on Collins losing his helmet. But...wait a second...the TCU defender ripped Collins' helmet off--that's not on us, that's the refs not noticing (at first) why the helmet was off. They also sent off Landry in the 3rd quarter after he had his helmet ripped off. It seemed almost like it was a technique TCU is coaching. As for special teams, you guys are right that it was a game changer--though why is no love being given to a great performance by a freshman placekicker? The player that impressed me most was Jarvis Landry. He could very well have a Josh Reed-caliber season, and if so, our opposition had better watch out.
MCTiger brought that point up last night, definitely the FG kicker deserves some love. Alleman missed his first FG in that same stadium under the lights vs Oregon, and Delawhateverhisnameis was money.
I saw three helmets pulled off last night and I lost count of defensive backs holding. We started holding ourselves in the second half because the refs were letting it go. After the halftime debacle that almost cost us 3 points, I figured that the six best Big-10 referee squads were officiating in Big-10 games and we probably got the backup squad. They were really bad.
Though I have seen a little flowing his way, you're right there's not enough. The first two RZ failures may be blessings in disguise. Put the kicker to task early to find out what he's got when there is less pressure on him and allow him to build confidence for that moment where every chance of winning a game is on him. I have got to say that I am already at ease with LSU's place kicking game after the questions I had due to last season. It isn't so much that he was 3 for 3 from the field and 4 for 4 on PATs, but you can't fault perfect. It was his poise and the way he made the easy ones look easy the way a good kicker is supposed to. Here's to a young Mr. Delahoussaye, I hope you have a great career as a Tiger and thanks for your contributions so far.
Yes I forgot to mention the kicker. I said to myself watching the game last night that it looks like we got us another solid placekicker. The kicks were confident and pretty much down the middle. I went ahead and edited my writeup to include him.
