I agree. Barrow hasnt shown anything deserving of his #18. He should be stripped. Loston should have been benched a long time ago. We definitely need leaders to step up. Still, we need better coaching.
In years past we've always used the run to set up the pass and we might have to flip that this year in order to be successful running the football. In spite of Mettenberger's emergence teams are still stacking the box against us because they know Miles is going to run it 50% of the time regardless of who is the OC. The only way to get around this is to keep throwing the football and hit them with the occassional draw until they play us honest and we can go back to ground and pound. Defensively, this is the worst Tiger D we've had since 2008. I don't know if it's a lack of talent or youth, and I tend to lean toward youth, but they are not good enough, at least right now, to help us win big games. I do have faith in Chief that we will improve defensively as the years goes on because of our youth.....but there is no excuse for the way Loston or Barrow played yesterday. Pathetic.
Q.1 Does LSU still have an Entrance Exam Quiz? Sometimes it seems our players don't have the smarts to checkout a helmet. Q.2 Why does Chavis allow the "dink um" pass of 6-9 yards - it only allows our opponents to advance the chains too easily. Q.3 Where has our Tiger "meanness" gone to and disappeared? Back in the late 50s and 60s we always played with our hair on fire! Glad I got these off my mind. We used to have 165 lb DBs who would tackle an unpadded goalpost and get up laughing claiming they had "enemy identification" problems momentarily.
Here is the TIN FOIL PREVENT. feel free to share. 11 fastest on the field. Rush 5 or 6, shoot gaps run like hell. Drop 6 or 5. Raise Hell!!! Geaux Tigers!
I had a pit in my stomach watching this entire game. All I could think was how many championships we'd have won instead of the gumps if we had this offense with the defense we had the past few years. It is unbelievable how good Mett was only to see us take a loss in this game. I just keep shaking my head over this one.....
Finally getting around to reading this thread .... This is the best post on it. ... short and accurate to a point. ... with a few changes. Mett and receivers .. A+. Punt and kick A+. Receiving .. Beckam needs to get the stars out of his eyes and just go back to playing ball. If he plays like normal, he'll be a star. I have to give Hill and the RBs a break .... I'll give them a B-, but you can't run if your O-line is missing assignment, who IMO, gets a D. As for the Defense .... they don't even get an F! They get a ZERO. Tackling issues, read issues, no fire. It reminds me of the JJ days ... you knew we were going 3-out, except this time it's the D .. you know they can't stop the run or pass. No need to single out any single player on defense ... the entire squad pretty much sucks. So in So being the best, or so in so need not even be there is relative .... they all pretty much have a lot to learn and need to improve. Chavis ... get's a D. ... I can't give one of the greatest Defensive minds an F. But, as was stated earlier ... if your zone is getting burned, which it did all night long, go to Man and get burned, and at least increase the pressure on the QB. I didn't see any reason to give Miles or Cam a bad grade, so by default they get an A.
Here's my biggest concerns....I knew we would not be as good defensively as the last few years, but the amount of blown coverages and people out of position is truly alarming. I can not ever remember watching an LSU defense that had that many mental mistakes, this defense looked like the defenses we had during the dreaded dual d-cordinator role. That is unacceptable, I love Chief....have always thought he was one of the best in the country, but he has to take alot of the heat here. There's no excuse for having that much confusion in game 4 of the season.
How much of this is on Chief, how much on the position coaches, and how much on the players? My guess is there is plenty of blame to go around, but Chief has been here for several years. While I don't like the plays at the end of the game, either, he is one of the best around. Except for the DB coach, I believe the other position coaches are the same, and, in past seasons, we've had anywhere between very good and excellent d-line and lb play. So, does that mean our talent and football IQ is that much less this year than in the past?
It's all Les Mile's fault. He shouldn't be dabbling in the defense. Miles teams always do this. Why can't he leave the defense along like he does the offense? Or we can go It's all Les Mile's fault. He should be telling Chavis what to do. He didn't do that, and that's why we lost that game. You saw what he did by bringing in Cameron, he needs to replace Chief. Either way we can find a way to blame Les.
