Jordan Allen at DT would be a complete joke. Dude would get eaten alive. Not sure if you're thinking straight. Lacouture or Mickey Johnson or someone is going to have to step up.
And once again, I will tell you that is not a balanced offense. That is a run heavy offense. And when we play teams that are of higher quality and they decide they will take the run away from us, we better not be stubborn and continue to try to bang away. We've come a long long way with Mettenberger and he should be looked upon as much of a weapon as Hill is at running back. One in the same. Make that defense pay.
Yea the fake to me is one of those gambles that I won't complain about because if it works it completely deflates the other team when we get 7 after, then you are probably looking at different game from that point on.
From the stat sheet: 1-10 LS 24 Jeremy Hill rush for loss of 2 yards to the LS22 (M. Alexander;Dee Ford). 2-12 LS 22 Timeout Auburn, clock 03:05. 2-12 LS 22 Jeremy Hill rush for loss of 2 yards to the LS20 (C. McKinzy) 3-14 LS 20 Jeremy Hill rush for 5 yards to the LS25 (C. McKinzy) It was twice for a loss, one was a gain. Like I said, LSU matched TD for TD up till the end of the game...at the end, we had the ball and the Victory Formation was used. Our defense needed rest, with the fast pace of barn, you are unable to sub guys during possessions.
I have no problem with the call itself. I have a problem with the distance needed to go for the first down. Under 5 yards, ok. Although even then you take the 3 points and put the game away for good. But 10 yards? Eh. No. Heck no. You know what's even better than opponents now having to practice for that? Opponents not knowing it's coming. It was a wasted shot because of the timing of the call. Another thing. Miles needs to back the F off the run when they are putting 8,9,10 in the box. That's not smash mouth football, that's stupid football. This isn't 1960 and the rules have changed. The offense has every advantage now and it should be used.
I will end on a positive note by saying this. The tigers have a solid back in hill. Beckham and Landry are two of the best in the conference. And Mett is finding himself in the offense. Cameron has made a positive impact since arriving. I am thankful for the production of these guys and the gelling of the offensive line. The injury to Tre tonight took a toll late in the game. Hopefully it is nothing serious. We now have a legitimate offense at lsu. Thank you Jesus. And a talented defense should improve as the season progresses. Success will continue.
What does any of that have to do with dumb play calling? Even if Hill got 5 yards, it was on a 3rd and 14. So after 3 plays we were net positive 1 yard. Oh your right, that completely changes everything. . . It's not about running out the clock only. You have to give your defense time to rest as well. Stupid play I along and going three and out is the complete OPPOSITE of what we need to do. One more sustained drive would have iced it, instead it was a stupid ending where we struggled to close the door on an inferior team. It smelled of Classic Miles and it made me sick.
That someone hasn't stepped up yet. Allen plays a good game, even playing partial, a couple tackles, a Sack and a TFL. Hunter keeps having good games and Rasco had another fair game. LaCouture is still a work in progress. He can spell a few plays. Mickey Johnson didn't see the field tonight.
