I agree, that was not the typical Jindal delivery. I've been flip-flopping all morning on how I felt about it. At first, I was thinking,"what is he doing?" I was looking for the energy and fire that we usually see, but he was going with a more Clinton-esque slow and dumb-it-down rhetorical approach. I think the criticism of that tone is pretty disingenuous, coming as it does from people who lauded Al Gore and John Kerry (two of the most dull public speaking politicians in recent history). Anyone see the MSNBC clowns literally laughing at him? Pretty pathetic. Anyway, bottom line for me on the Jindal response: loved the message, not enthralled with the delivery. If he really intends a Presidential run in '12, he may have given America a first impression that will be tough to overcome. Too many voters tend to go with style over substance.

Considering that our last governor was illiterate, I guess we're making progress. :thumb:

Speaking of our last governor, what is Edith Bunker Blanco up to these days? Please tell me she's not trying to teach school again. No wonder we're at the bottom in education.

I didn't see how slowly Jindal spoke, but during his hurricane Gustav press conferences I remember thinking I'm glad I'm not doing the signing for the hearing impaired. Jindal spoke so fast that I thought it was a cheap debate tactic... where you only have so much time to present your arguments that you begin to sound like the disclaimers in a car ad.

I've always thought these responses are kinda silly. How do you effectively present a rebuttal immediately after a speech by a sitting president speaking before both houses of Congress? Especially one as wildly popular as Obama?

I didn't watch either speech, but I've read about conservatives not being happy with Jindal's performance. But it seems like their criticisms are not about the substance, just the unattractive way in which he presented it. And that's definitely a shame if style now counts more than substance.

But thinking big-picture here, I doubt that Jindal's speech and any positive or negative reaction to it really matters in the long run. Let's not forget that Obama still has four years left in office and Jindal still has a state to govern. Plus, I'm sure he'll have much more practice delivering speeches before a national audience.

This morning's paper has the US Geological Survey objecting and the Washington Post crying hypocrisy over Jindal's criticism of a few million dollars to monitor volcanoes. Portland and Seattle and vast rural areas sit along a range of active volcanoes that are a simmering threat. Mt. St Helens is among them and Mt. Rainier dominates Seattle. The Advocate criticized Jindal’s situational ethics in objecting to volcano monitoring in a state where the taxpayer pays for early warning of hurricanes. It made him look like a nitpicker.

Jindal's "Mr. Rogers" delivery was his method of trying to tell the Democrats to "go F themselves" in a nice way.

I wonder what Carville has to say about Louisiana Democrats. Our state has been led almost exclusively by Democrats and we see the results. We're last in almost every quality of life category. From corruption to stupidity, Democrats have destroyed this state for the past 100 years. The only areas in the state that have endured and done well are led by who...Republicans. Coincidence? Maybe...but I don't think so.
