To be honest, I only recall one of those runs. However I do recall that one well since I truly believed I could have given a better effort than Mett on every run he attempted last season at 53 . Last night's run made me truly believe that not only am unable to do better now, I never had the ability that he displayed. Mett has progressed greatly under Cam's tutelage, making good smart plays.

maybe he didn't pick up a first on one of them but I do remember him picking up some yards on a scramble when the pocket broke down. And even though he didn't complete them, I remember 2 plays where he ran around avoiding the sack and kept looking to make a play with his arm. I hate to seem so enamored with Mettenberger because it's just 1 game, and we knew he could do it, the question was could he consistently, but the progression and improvement seems obvious, especially mechanically and with his footwork.

Let's not forgot obvious improvements in the game going on in between his eyes and ears, not just the game going on in between his feet and arm. @LaSalleAve

About the only slight criticism I have of Mett from last night was his ability to throw on the run. He only did it twice as I recall, but both of those throws were his worst of the night. There's no denying he's improved dramatically in every aspect of his game from last year and the really encouraging thing was that he did it against a perennially top 20 defense, so if that's his biggest weakness, I guess we can live with it at this point.

    Unless the underthrow gets intercepted.

Shane, this is the first time in years you have been able to say something good about the O! How nice is that? I don't mean that you have been too critical. The O has been so offensive, it deserved the criticism. It's just nice that we can all actually feel like we have a passing game that looks and feels legitimate, and respectable. It will open up the already formidable run game.

It was smart quarterbacking. Last season he would have taken a sack or forced the pass to a guy who was about to get dropped for a loss.

The premise yes, the execution was what I saw as shaky. He does that v bama and Its loss of down. I'm ok with getting rid of it when warranted, just make it look better.

Hard to do when you are inside the tackle box. He had to throw it near a receiver or he would have gotten a flag for intentional grounding. But you are right, something about both of those screen passes was wrong. TCU either smelled them out, meaning that we telegraphed it somehow . . . or the play execution itself was a dog. Whatever the reason, Cameron had obviously instructed Mettenberger what to do if it happened. Throw the ball at the receivers feet.

He had to throw at Blue's feet because it was a screen, which mean linemen could have been upfield, if you don't throw the ball behind the line of scrimmage you could get flagged for illegal man upfield. At least I think that's why he threw at the back's feet behind the line.
