well, fwiw, casey is just being gracious enough to give us a heads-up from the camp. you won't find many people as objective as he is when it comes to sports, so be grateful that he's not skewing anything to make LSU players look better than they are. a question that i have: how much of the camp is structured around the elite college QBs getting tips/pointers from the mannings and how much is it structured to where QBs like Jefferson, et al are actually instructing younger/lower-tiered QBs? to me it seems that they're there to more or less help out with the lower-tiered QBs and high school kids which, i guess is cool, but was wondering how much "behind the scenes" stuff is going on. that would be cool if the mannings were able to afford special attention or "sessions" for those 20-or-so top QBs so that they could, uhmmm, you know, provide better instruction to the other camp participants. :hihi:
I do a very good job of not being able to express in the format what I am thinking and what I want to say. I have read your post several times and I don't understand at any level what you are saying. I want to think you because you are making me feel better about myself! thanks !twocrystals!
So you're taking off points for arm strength, when really what you're criticizing is his release? Two unrelated things in my opinion.
To me it's pretty simple, if he didn't have the big mechanic to get his body behind the ball it would have a slow velocity. So, in a pitch and catch situation he looks great, take your time and have plenty of room for the the mechanic. Unfortunately, the game doesn't work like that. Weak arm strength, has a big mechanic that allows him to put juice on the ball, but at the end of the day the mechanic is slow it really doesn't matter because the defender can recover by the time the ball comes out. To me they are related. Go watch one of the Mannings for a small mechanic that is quick yet they have enough arm to get ball where it needs to go, it's almost all arm with some follow through. Now nobody is expecting someone to come in here and have a Dan Fouts or Marino or Manning release... the point is to show where the problem lies. DNA puts limits on all of us. The slower the mechanic, the lower chance you have for success IMHO. Now if your OL gives you 5 seconds to throw every time than its not a problem, but that just isn't going to happen. To me he has limited ability, probably looks great in practice though. I don't fault the kid, he is working hard, all we can do is the best with what we are given.
Like that weak armed Tim Tebow? JJ's mechanics are caused by his DNA?? So when Tebow changed his mechanics between the senior bowl and pro-day, he must have changed his DNA to do it? Perhaps he really is Christ after all. :insane:
Don't joke about that! I swear, I saw Tebow's beatific visage on a pancake at Denny's last night. Of course, it could have been the wasp sting from earlier that day... Wait, topic. I certainly hope JJ is working on mechanics among other things, but all the prep in the world cannot account for game experience. I don't doubt that JJ is very talented. I'm just worried that he's been burnt by his experience and will 'freeze' and revert to 2009 form once on the field. It seems to me (and I am admittedly not one with a ton of football smarts) that the best defense against this is consistent, quality coaching...which he didn't seem to get from GC. Here's hoping Gonzales is making a difference.
Setting up a strawman is not going to work. Timmy doesn't have an ideal release but he could get the ball off fairly quickly. What Timmy brought to the table was good and FAST decision making, fairly quick release, an awesome option QB, and powerful runner. Timmy had a hitch to his mechanic and brought the ball down too far, he didn't need to change his whole body to make the changes. JJ has about the same amount of ability to get the ball out fast and hard as I do at jumping like Lebron James. We all have limitations. And for the record, I have high doubts that Timmy will make it in the NFL at QB long-term. His running and option ability opened up the spots he needed to throw the ball.
Yep, doesn't make any sense that a QB that can't get the ball out quickly. Boy, so hard to understand. I would say this is a fact at this point. Like when everyone was telling me that Scott up the middle play was going to work last year, when I was out here saying last summer it wasn't going to work.
